Obituary of Violet Suzanne Lucyk

It is with great sadness and regrets that we announce the sudden loss of our Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Auntie, and friend Violet Suzanne Lucyk on October 31, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Mom was predeceased by her parents; her grandson Troy; and her brother Alvin.

She is survived by her three sons Craig (Kim) of Whitecourt Alberta, Kirk (Glenna) of Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Brad (Brenda) of Pilot Butte Saskatchewan; siblings, Mervyn (Myrna), Lawrence (Hazel), Delores (Jim), Dwight (Gladys), and sister in law Betty: grandchildren, Jeff, Tyler (Lindsey) Tricia (Grant), Sheldon (Amber), Jason (Rhea), Jenna (Landon), Tara (Justin), Michaela (Taguru), Allison ( Brayden); and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kayla (Tricia, Grant); Jade, Halle (Jenna Landon); Kajsa, Stella, Vera (Tyler, Lindsey), Faye (Troy),  Connor (Jason, Rhea) and Olivia (Tara, Justin).

Mom was born in Fort Qu’Appelle Saskatchewan on March 11, 1940 to Joseph and Laura Snider. She was the second child of 6 children.

Mom grew up in very difficult circumstances. Being the second oldest child of a hard working mother, she took on the responsibility to help with the daily chores at home, and care for her younger siblings while her mother worked. At the age of 14 years, she started a job as a waitress at a local restaurant to get a little extra money.

At the age of 16, she married and moved to her new in-law’s family farm. They started out with very little but did the best they could with what they had.  Their house was a converted 12 X 12 grainery where they started a family raising her first child. While still in that “house”, within a few years her second child was born.

Hoping to improve their situation, she and dad packed up and moved to Surrey BC.  Here, she worked hard raising children along with picking and cleaning eggs at the family business. Within a year or two they moved back to Saskatchewan where they eventually settled in Whitewood where her third was born. In Whitewood she cared and raised our family, worked in retail and took care of secretary duties for the Whitewood Telephone Company.

Sixteen years quickly passed and it was around 1978 when they moved into Pilot Butte and started working in Regina. Her first Job was at Paralissa clothing Store, after a couple of years she entered the Physio therapy occupation where she started at Stewart and Stewart Physiotherapy. There she worked alongside the therapist doing hot packs, ultrasounds on patients. She then moved to University Park therapy. It was after working there several years she retired in the year 2005. She then had more time to enjoy her family and enjoyed making many new friends. Mom then moved to Silo Gardens where she spent her last four years.

For Mom, family and friends were the most precious and important part of her life. She was a devoted mother and the “glue” for the family regardless the situation. Mom’s priority through those years was to do her best for our health and happiness.  She was the best patient listener and supporter when anyone need to talk. Mom loved having friends and family stop by or call, if even for a few minutes. She also loved to go out for a shopping trip or a bite to eat. She was so proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and family’s. The highlight of her life was to have family stop, call or have regular visits and outings with close friends.

Mom always kept a brave attitude in dealing with her numerous health issues, the latest, her battle with lung cancer. She always managed to stay positive and looked forward to improvements in her health situation.  She truly appreciated the meals dropped off, the regular coffee visits, shopping trips, help, encouragement and support from close friends and family. Our family can’t express enough appreciation to all for this support. Thank-you.

We were blessed to have her as our mother and she truly will be missed. She will always be loved and with us in our hearts, memories and prayers ….

“Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life.” John 5:28-29
