Reta Carduner

Obituary of Reta Colette Carduner

Faith, Family and Friends – Those are the things that mattered most to Reta Colette Carduner.  It is with great sadness that we announce her passing at the age of eighty years in Regina, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.  She was born on October 10, 1939 on a farm near Storthoaks, Saskatchewan to Stephen and Germaine (Paquin) Smith.  Her early education took place at a country school, Sacred Heart Academy in Regina, and then Oxbow High for her secondary education.  Once she graduated from high school, she attended Teacher’s College in Moose Jaw and finished her education by obtaining a Bachelor of Education at the University of Regina.  She married in 1960 and after a short teaching assignment in both Brandon and Winnipeg, Manitoba, she completed a twenty-eight-year teaching career with the Regina Catholic School Division.  Although teaching was the love of her life, she retired after thirty years of teaching elementary school. Once retired, her love for learning took her back to the University of Regina to complete a degree in Art History.  During breaks she travelled the world with Ireland and New Zealand being among her favourites.  She had many interests: bridge, golfing, tennis, football, crafts and entertaining, but nothing could beat the time she spent with her family and her grandchildren, whom she adored.  Reta was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Germaine (Paquin) Smith; her niece, Janet DeBoer; her older brother, Alvin Smith and her husband, Gilbert A. Carduner. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Sean Carduner (Regina); her daughter, Denise Swallow (Jim) (Regina); her two wonderful grandchildren, Amy and Benjamin Swallow; her sister, Anita DeBoer (Gerry Haller) of Aptos, California, USA; her brother, Meryl (Marilyn) Smith of Medicine Hat; and her nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Parish, 4720 Castle Road, Regina, Saskatchewan on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Peter Pham officiating.  Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East. The family would like to thank the staff at the Regina General Hospital, Pasqua Hospital and the William Booth Convalescent Unit for the amazing care that you gave mom. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Salvation Army, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 3M7 or charity of your choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave. (306-522-3232).
