His remarkable ability to speak intelligently on all manner of subjects was absolutely incredible. I always departed our get-togethers feeling more informed than when I arrived. Dan chauffeured Joan and me from Munich to Dacchu, driving through Bavaria with unbelievable commentary about WWII. A sailing trip along the Croatian coast added another layer of interesting war detail from Dan. He was such a good sport on our two Maui holidays with Joan and Gladys. There was always lots of fun and thoughtful conversations over a glass of wine on the occasional Saturday afternoon. I'll miss you Dan. You leave me with wonderful memories of friendship with you and Joan. My condolences to you Joan, James, Bill and your families.

I spent many hours with Dan as we were growing up. He would spend summers at the farm with grandma and grandpa ( me too as I'm only 3 years older ) He loved riding on the tractor and spent hours quizzing grandpa about the "old days " . As we got older he was discusted with my reading materials ,Nancy Drew . I lived with the Baldwins when I attended University and covered for Dan a few times when he and his buddies drank their dad's rum substituting water in place of the couple ounces they enjoyed . I have lots of memories of us growing up and will remember him with love .
