We were so very saddened to hear of Dr. Cardoso's passing. We know we join a large cast who's lives were so deeply touched by this kind and caring doctor. What I will never forget was his infectious joy. Every birth and baby was a new thrill lighting him up from the inside out. He had my deep respect, absolute trust and we have always felt it was a wonderful blessing that our paths crossed.

Hi Billie,
My sincere condolences to you, the boys and all of the family on the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. This will be a "new normal" for all of you and it is not an easy road to travel. But you have been such a good cousin to Barbara (and me) and have been so loving to all of the family that I hope you know you have a lot of love and support from so many people. I will be thinking of you - stay strong.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Cardoso. Without Dr. Cardoso, my daughter Kendall would have never been born. I spent the last 2 1/2 months of a high risk pregnancy at RGH. He talked with me daily and he listened and understood. He cared so much! My pregnancy was a series of multiple hemorrhages that seemed to follow a cycle. I had kept a calendar of these events. One morning during his visit, I asked if he was the doctor on call that night because according to my calendar I was due soon for another hemorrhage and I was worried. I had carried Kendall almost to 36 weeks and didn't want to lose her. He told me that he wasn't the doctor on, but, that I would be in good hands if anything happened. Later on during the night, I woke up and heard him talking outside my door with the nurses. It wasn't his night to be on, but, he was there for me anyways. The next morning when he visited me, he said nothing about being there during the night and asked to see the calendar. Then he told me I would be going for an amniocentesis right away and my baby was safely c-sectioned the next day. Since then, I've had surgeries with Dr. Cardoso. He always phoned my husband to let him know when surgery was over. Once I woke up in recovery to find Dr. Cardoso holding my hand starting his conversation with, "My Dear,........" Once he phoned me at home a month after surgery to ask how I was doing. Every time I saw him he always asked about Roger, the kids, and the farm. He always remembered everybody! Such a wonderful person and doctor. He will be missed by many. Part of me feels though, that Dr. Cardoso will be ever present as an angel overseeing all the future births and ob/gyn surgeries at RGH. God Bless you Dr. Cardoso.

My deepest sympathies to Dr. Cardoso’s wife and family. He was my doctor when I carried each of my 3 girls through high risk pregnancies. He was an amazing doctor who cared so much for me. I felt I was more than just a case. When I went back to see him many years later for surgery. He asked me all about my children, my husband my work and took such care of me personally calling my husband when the surgery was over. What a beautiful caring man. He also cared for my daughter during her pregnancies. He will be so missed by all he touched. Thank you

I met Reynaldo when he was six years old. We were both starting in elementary school (Colegio Tepeyac) in Mexico. I remember his smile, his sense of humor and I always valued his friendship. I am a pathologist. After many years we recently met again in Houston to celebrate our 50th anniversary as physicians (we graduated from medical school in 1969). Reynaldo had not changed: he had the same smile and enthusiasm as when we were 6 years old. He kept in touch with all of our friends from elementary school and he sent me photographs of our classmates and teachers that he had recently seen in Mexico.
Dear Reynaldo: I am sure that we will see each other on the other side and I will identify you by your sincere smile.

Our heart felt thoughts and sympathies to Billie and family. Our hearts were saddened when we received a message from David Podgereki of Reynaldo's passing.
Putting into word our thought to describe Reynaldo is very difficult. Suffice to say that his passing at too young an age has left a
void of being greeted by Reynaldos smile, twinkle in his eyes, and his concern for the well being of others. Our contact has been more restricted with retirement but where ever it was it was always the same Reynaldo.
May the many fine memories of Reynaldo bring comfort to Billie and family in the days ahead.

He was my dr for my second pregnancy in ‘95 and I still smile when I tell the story of how he accidentally slipped and asked me how my “son” was doing. And then he realized I didn’t know and started back pedaling ☺️ I still to this day tell that story and it always makes me smile and laugh. Rest In Peace good doctor. You will be missed by many.

Dr. Cardoso was one of a kind. We met 4 years ago when I was pregnant with our 3rd daughter, he was the first person to not feel sorry or urge us to abort instead he said "congratulations on getting pregnant!" He helped carry me through some pretty rough times when we didn't know what would happen, helped me practice my spanish when i felt so alone and far from home and family, have his support once she was born and things got critical and we now have a beautiful 4 year old girl that we love with all our hearts.
Thank you SO much to his wife, kids and grandkids for sharing him with the community for so many years. He was dedicated and I'm sure it wasnt easy having him away for his long hours but your sacrifice and support for him have impacted and healed more families than you will ever know!
Rest in peace Dr. Cardoso.

We were very saddened to hear of Rey’s death. We send our deepest sympathy to Billie, Reynaldo, David and their families.
Our first memories of Rey date back to the 70’s and 80’s when he was practicing Ob/Gyn with our father, Dr. Bob Sollars. Our family loved when he would join us for dinner and he would produce a bottle of hot sauce from his jacket pocket and show us how to liberally spice up our traditional British fare. Not only was he a favourite dinner guest, he delivered 3 of the Sollars grandchildren.
Our family was so happy to see Rey at Dad's memorial 2 years ago, reminiscing and recalling stories.
Reynaldo was a respected and cherished friend and colleague to our dad and we are all very grateful for his friendship.

Rey was one of the first people to welcome me to the Obs/Gyne residency program when I came to Regina in 2000. He and Billie graciously welcomed me to their home for meals (still the best guac I have ever had!). He grilled me not only on medical knowledge, but WHL hockey trivia and regaled us with proud tales of the exploits of his grown children. Without a doubt, he was one of my favorite people to work with. His attention to detail, unique surgical idiosyncrasies (Keith needles anyone?) and visible love for his work will remain with me. He had the most cheerful spirit and I enjoyed every minute we spent together.
We have lost a beautiful soul this week.
Billie, my deepest condolences.

From Cristina Braz Wilson I send my feelings to Dr Cardoso's family. With my Brazilian nationality, I always identified with Dr Cardoso, because the language was similar. He was a very important person in my life and my family. The times I went to see him, he would always spend a few minutes asking about my children, son-in-law and grandchildren. He helped me a lot during a very difficult period of my life, my divorce and with my daughter when she had miscarriage with her first baby. Every time I went to see him, always with the same smile and happy to be helping his patients. The day they were taking his things from his office, it was my coincidence that I went to Hospita and decided to say hello to him, and then his wife informed me that he was retired . I was very sad not to have him as a doctor anymore, but I was happy for him, to enjoy life while his still young! His passion was his family and his patients. Rest in peace Dr Cardoso. I am sure you are in the special place next to God because you were such a wonderful person here on earth.

I loved this man. My favourite Dr. Cardoso story....he calls the RGH and admits me at one of my regular weekly visits, says I can't go home due to PIH. I'm devastated because I still had 5 weeks until my due date.
He visited me daily, listened to my whining and such. After a few weeks he decides its time to have the baby for my safety and hers. They tried to induce labour for days and nothing. He came to visit me the day before my daughter was born, September 24, 1993 (keep in mind she is now 26 and I still remember this like it was yesterday!) and he says, "now what's your due date again"? to which I replied, October 11th. And he says,
"Of WHAT year"?
I had no choice but to laugh and the next day, there she was, a little yellow but perfectly healthy.
The world has gained another angel and Dr. Cardoso was a blessing to everyone he met. RIP sweet man.

Dr. Cardoso was a constant during my career in the RGH Operating Room. He always shared stories of his boys and “my Billie”.
During the years he cared for me as an expectant mother, shared his experiences in teaching and his practice, as well his generosity when my husband and I visited Mexico City.
Meme and her family, brothers and their families welcomed us with open arms sharing their hospitality, just on her brother’s word. Visiting the maternity hospital it was clear that he was born into the medical life! A talented family.
In the later years Dr Cardoso would bring his own music to the OR! We listened to Linda Rondstat (a personal shared favourite) and Dr C belting out the beautiful Spanish songs! Or course work was always being done while this occurred. Still today when I listen to Linda R. I fondly recall Cardso’s happiness in sharing his tunes!
Our deepest condolences to you all. We are saddened by the news of Dr. C passing. Myrna and Gavin ( aka Pepsi la pew) Pugh

Billie, David, Candace and Reynaldo, and little James and Elizabeth. We are so very sorry for the loss of Reynaldo. I will remember the time spent with him in Regina over the years, and on his trips to Vancouver. I will miss the emails he would send about his adventures, his sense of humour, and his love and adoration of his grandchildren. I will cherish the stories my mom tells of her visit to Mexico, and the cufflinks story from my dad.
We are thinking of all of you during this difficult time.
Lots of love ❤️ Debbie Emery (Jackie, Ed, and David)
