Dennis Stafford

Obituary of Dennis Roy Stafford

Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence… Dennis passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 just shy of his 90th birthday. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, his son Gregory Brent, his close friend Merle, and many dear friends. Dennis is survived by his son Todd (Shaunon); his daughter Tara (Stuart); and his five granddaughters: Kaitlyn, Courtney, Meagan, Ashlee, and Lindsay, of whom he was most proud, as well as extended family and friends. Dad was a great story teller, and had many chapters and adventures in his life that led him through Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. He loved fishing, and many of the stories revolved around that. His most important chapter was becoming a friend of Bill W, on December 2, 1982. For 37 years he took life one day at a time, and thrived in recovery. He worked at the Regina Detox Centre, operated Central Literature, and enjoyed his early morning meetings, especially the Friday Morning Breakfast group which was his home meeting. As his family, we are so very proud of how hard he worked for his sobriety. Dad always said – “It works if you work it.” Along his way he helped many with their journeys as well. We want to thank the staff at Sunset Extendicare, west wing for their exceptional care that they provided to dad during his last months. A private Family Service will be held at a later date and his remains will be scattered at many of his favourite places. Dad had a genuine appreciation for life. To remember him, help someone who needs some kindness in their life, and treat yourself to some ice cream – every day is a good day for ice cream. …Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours & aspirations in the noisy confusion of life keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy. (Taken from Desiderata, by Max Ehrmann, 1927 which was a favourite poem.)
