Byron Becker

Obituary of Byron Charles Becker

With sadness but also fond memories, we announce the passing of Byron. He was born on September 13, 1954 to his parents Harvey and Evelyn, who passed before him. Byron will be forever loved and missed by his only remaining family member, his brother Trent. Byron grew up in small town Saskatchewan and in Regina. In his early career, he worked as a technician for SaskTel. During those years, he developed a love for country music and learned to play guitar. He collected several guitars and professional equipment for performances and recording. Along with a number of friends, Byron put together a small informal band who got together for “jam sessions” in his basement. He also enjoyed attending folk festivals and music workshops. Wishing to expand his horizons, Byron put his career on hold in order to study philosophy and psychology, earning a bachelor’s degree at the University of Regina. He followed this up with graduate studies at the University of Calgary. Byron enjoyed the entrepreneurial spirit of Calgary, and stayed there for many years to work for the University and then as a technician in the security industry. Along with his love of music, Byron was a “backyard mechanic” who enjoyed maintaining his own collection of vehicles. He also enjoyed spending time in natural surroundings, to go for walks in parks, or to relax by a lake with friends. He was a respectful and kind person, who was always willing to help others when they needed assistance, lending his own unique skill and expertise to benefit them. Byron returned to Regina and finished his career in the security industry, leaving him free in the last months of his life to stay at home with his brother in their family home. His health had begun to deteriorate in the last years of his life, and it took a sudden and unexpected turn for the worse, leading to his life ending on Friday, January 24, 2020. His memory will be forever in the minds of his brother, relatives, and his loyal friends of many decades. A Graveside Service will be held in Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East, Regina, SK, on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. Please meet inside cemetery gates.
