Obituary of Joan White
Joan White, 91 years, born on June 18, 1928 in London, England, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2020 with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. P.K B. White; her parents Lena and William Thorling; her little brother Peter and her much loved grandson Jesse. Joan leaves behind her children, Susan (Chris), Linda, Caroline Jane and Jennifer (Jeff); her beloved grandchildren, Rebecca (Tom), Jillian (Dryden), and Joel and her great-granddaughter Alessandra.
After completing secretarial training in London, England, Mum worked in this field for a number of years until she married Dad in 1952. In 1960 they emigrated together with three young children to Canada, where they settled in Regina, SK, and where their fourth daughter was born. Aside from raising our family, Mum then took on the role as dedicated office secretary and manager for Dad for many years.
She adored her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them, most memorably playing scrabble, watching movies and drinking tea. She loved to travel, with Hawaii being her second home, and was happiest under a palm tree near the ocean. Some of her most joyful moments were in the many casinos that she travelled to and where she was unusually lucky! Mum had a love for all birds, small animals and nature in general.
We are very grateful to all the staff at Helping Hands Care Home for all of their kindness and support of Mum over this past year. We extend a special thanks to doctors Baldwin, MacDonald and Van Rooyen, Nurse Practitioner Barb from Palliative Care and all the nurses on unit 3D at the Pasqua hospital who cared for Mum in those last three weeks.
Mum will be remembered for her strength, determination, stubbornness, independence, her natural confidence and her loving support of her family. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
