Robert Geradts

Obituary of Robert August Wilhelm Geradts

Bob passed away peacefully with his family present. He is survived by his “lovable” wife of 67 years, Margaret; daughter Susan (Peter) and grandson Alex Love; son Rob (Tania) Geradts; son Chris (Tammy) and grandchildren Amanda, Christopher, Grace and Olivia Geradts; son-in-law Bob Forbes and grandchildren Lara (Roger) Wojahn, Luke (Laura) and great-grandchildren Taylor, Ashley and William Forbes, Matt Forbes; sister Anneliese Wunche; and brother-in-law Rainer (Sanne) Portz and family. Bob was predeceased by his parents Wilhelm and Luise (Meiche) Geradts; his brother Wilhelm Geradts; his sister Wilma Lenz; and his loving daughter Linda Forbes.

Bob married Margaret Henrietta Portz in Bremen, Germany. He came to Canada in 1955 looking for a new life for his family. His skills as a certified dental technician were recognized and he was hired at Regina Dental Lab. He went on to purchase this business which he grew and ran successfully for over 40 years.

Bob was a devoted, loving husband and father. He was a compassionate people person.  All who knew him will remember a kind-hearted soul with an infectious smile and jovial laughter, always with a twinkle in his eyes. He had a passion for the outdoors and he was grateful for his many hunting, fishing and canoeing trips with close friends and family. He and Margaret enjoyed many travels around the world with their Airstream Club.  They also enjoyed spending winters in Manzanillo, Mexico. Especially dear to him was the cabin he built at Sorensen’s Beach.

Family brought the ultimate joy to Bob. He established the family tradition of the summer ‘lobsterfest’ which the family enjoyed for over 25 years.  He kept his family blessed with home-made smoked salmon, now a family recipe.

As both Dad and Opa, he taught all of his family to cherish each moment, each and every day, and to appreciate the little things in life, like starting the day with a good cup of coffee and ending it with a toast of brandy.  His family will cherish and remember his famous words as he departed for work each day, “Be good to one another”.

The family will have a private gathering to celebrate Bob’s fulfilled life.  He will be missed.
