Margaret Jean “Peggy” Luross
(nee MacKay)
Peggy passed away in the Regina General Hospital on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. Born in 1924 in Melville, Saskatchewan, Peggy was the younger daughter of Hugh and Anne MacKay and sister to Catherine MacKay (Wotherspoon). She attended school and worked in Melville until 1946 when she married Harvey Luross and moved to a farm near Atwater, Saskatchewan. They had two children (Joanne and Lorne) and left the farm for Regina in 1960, where Peggy attended Teachers’ College. She embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher and taught kindergarten and grade one at McNiven and Massey School for many years before retiring in 1982. Whenever she would encounter former students around town, all of them would fondly remember Mrs. Luross. Peggy is survived by her daughter Joanne Edwardson (John), her granddaughter Jamie McGough (Paul Sloman), her great-grandson Liam Sloman, and Lynn Cavanagh (Lorne Luross). She was predeceased by Harvey in 2012 and Lorne in 2011. Peggy is also survived by her nieces Nancy MacMillan, Betty O’Byrne, Barbara Gawley, Diane Watson, and nephew Greg Watson, as well as their families. She also leaves behind a wide circle of friends and acquaintances from her neighbourhood, her teaching days, and her years attending Whitmore Park United Church. Peggy loved reading, painting, and listening to bagpipes - music that was always close to her heart. She was a warm and lively person with a beautiful spirit who easily touched those around her. Peggy’s love and caring knew no bounds, especially when it came to her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed. Due to the current pandemic circumstances, a memorial service will be postponed until such time as deemed safe. A private Graveside Service was held at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
