Marian New

Obituary of Marian Edith New

Marian’s family are saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in her 94th year. Mom was born, raised and spent her life in Avonlea SK before moving to Regina in her later years. She was predeceased by her husband Ed New, granddaughter Alisa Marie New, great-granddaughter Alacia Cortes, parents Vera and Cliff McRorie and brother Lawrence McRorie. Marian is survived by her sisters Mavis (Ray) Leakey and Lynn (Don) Robertson; sister-in-law Betty McRorie and her "KIDS" Kelda (Jim) Shaner, Jo-Ann Nolan (Grant Johnston), Cynthia (Byron) Schleede, Craig (Anna) New; as well as eleven grandchildren;  and nineteen great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She was a Great Grandma and has been a hard act to follow.  Mom was a great cook, spent her spare time sewing our clothes, knitting afghans and sweaters and doing beautiful needle work.  She will be missed for her bread, brownies, pies, cookies and lemon tarts!  Mom was our organizer and present buyer for weddings/showers and always knew the perfect gifts for the person/occasion. She was active in the Avonlea United Church serving with the UCW and teaching Sunday school.  Mom was also a leader with the CGIT and 4H clubs.  She worked as a switchboard operator in Regina (even tracking Dad down when he returned from WWII) and as an operator in Avonlea, clerking in McRorie's General Store and office manager for Leakey and New Trucking (her personal title). Mom's actual birthday is October 6th but Grandpa Cliff registered the date wrong and it has caused many problems over the years.  She had the McRorie sense of humor, which served her well during stressful times. Mom will be greatly missed by all of her family.  Her favorite war song was WE`LL MEET AGAIN - that is our plan. In light of gathering restrictions, please send the New family your love from home. Please visit Marian’s Tribute Page at speersfuneralchapel.com to share memories and photographs and let them know you are thinking of them during this difficult time.  A family memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Family and friends so wishing, may make memorial donations in Marian’s name to Save the Children, 4141 Yonge Street, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, M2P 2A8.
