Obituary of Vera Grace Laing

Vera, late of Regina, SK, and formerly of Bethune, SK, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Vera was born on April 18, 1929 and was the second daughter to Roy and Grace McLennan, joining older sister Reva. After completing school in Bethune, she moved to Regina where she trained and later worked as a lab technician at the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital. She married George Douglas Laing (Doug) on Nov. 19, 1949. They lived on the family farm near Dilke, SK, where Doug was born and raised. It was here that she raised three boys and was a devoted wife, mother and farmhand. They lived on the farm until retiring to Bethune in 1997 where they built their first new house on lots that were in the McLennan family for many years. Vera loved her yard and garden, spending many hours puttering in the dirt. Meeting with her coffee buddies was a daily ritual and she enjoyed her turn opening the café to get the coffee on. In 2017 she moved to the College Park Retirement Residence in Regina to join Reva. She enjoyed her time there and seldom missed Ice Cream Wednesdays or Happy Hour Fridays. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Doug; her parents Roy and Grace McLennan; son Bevan and his wife Heather; daughter-in-law Sarah (Bruce); sister Reva and her husband Stuart. Vera is survived by her sons Bruce (Bonnie) and Clark (Lorinda); grandchildren Jim (Sabrina), Susan (Drew), Claire (Stephen) and Lani (Steve). The family would like to thank the staff at College Park Retirement Residence, Pasqua Hospital – Unit 4C and William Booth Special Care Home for the excellent care Mom/Grandma received. A Celebration of Vera's Life will be held at the K + S Community Hall, Bethune, SK., on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in the Bethune Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
