Obituary of Colleen Lillian Kohlruss
Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and dearest friend, Colleen Lillian Kohlruss passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Colleen is survived by her loving husband of 48 years Michael; her son Daniel (wife Melanie, children Ethan and Avery); and her daughter Stephanie (husband Brad).
Colleen was born on June 12, 1951 to Hannah and Augustine Sebastian and was the oldest of four children including Marilyn, Steven, and Glenda. Over her working career she spent time at Safeway, MacDonald's Consolidated, Dairy Producers, and most appropriately, as the “Chicken Lady” she spent 22 years at Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan.
Colleen was an avid collector of chickens, and her beautiful home was filled with them. She often said her decorating wasn't done until it was overdone, and every home needed at least one chicken. Colleen was an excellent hostess and was known for giving away cookbooks, creating amazing meals (without a recipe), and would always serve enough food to feed a small army. She was an incredible hobbyist who loved sewing, and made many beautiful custom quilts and one-of-a-kind bags for people. Over the years she loved other hobbies like gardening, baking, doing crossword puzzles, ceramics, and reading romance novels. Colleen also loved being on the water and boating with her family on summer vacations.
Above all things, Colleen was known for her laughter, her generosity and her lively spirit. Her friends and family describe her as larger than life and filled with joy and kindness. Family meant everything to Colleen, and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She gave all she had to her family, and instilled how important it was they be there for each other. She will be dearly missed.
There will be a private family interment, and a memorial service will take place at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada, Saskatchewan Chapter, 3602 Millar Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7P 0B1, in Colleen's memory, and flowers will be accepted at the family home.
Relatives and friends may reach out to the Kohlruss family by visiting Colleen’s Tribute Page at www.speersfuneralchapel.com and let them know you are thinking of them during this difficult time.
