Obituary of Philip John McManus
Phil was born on December 14, 1953 in Yorkton, SK to James and Elsie (Duff) McManus. The 2nd of 8 children. Phil attended school at Theodore and spent his younger years growing up in Theodore area. Upon finishing school, Phil moved to Regina and took a job welding with various companies until he went to work for General Electric in 1981 where he worked until he retired in December 2018.
Phil met the love of his life, Linda in August 1975. They were married on February 28, 1976, and they welcomed their first son, Sheldon, on August 24, 1976. Two years later, on October 26, 1978 they were blessed with a second son, Michael. Phil enjoyed spending most of his time hunting and fishing and teaching those skills to others. He volunteered his time as a Scout Leader when his sons were little, sharing his knowledge and love of the outdoors with them, as well as teaching the FAC course for many years. He taught them everything he knew and continued to share these skills with them into their adult years. Phil was a ‘jack of all trades’. He knew so much about many different things and loved working with his hands teaching and helping his family and friends wherever he could. This earned him the nickname of “Super Phil” by many of his son’s friends. If something was broken, you could count on Phil to fix it. If you needed something built, Phil was there to help you figure it out. Phil also loved carpentry; creating some beautiful furniture for his home, fast cars; racing cars as a young adult, and, on a trip to Las Vegas last year, fulfilled one of his bucket list items by driving a Ferrari 488 GT and a Lamborghini Huracán on the Speed Vegas Road course track; and spending time with his grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.
Phil was predeceased by his parents, James and Elsie (Duff) McManus older brother George McManus, brother in-law Ted Malyk, father in-law Charlie Peto.
Left to remember Phil are his loving wife Linda of 44 years; son Sheldon (Tanya), grandchildren Kyla (Derek) McDougall and Tyson, son Michael (Amy), and granddaughters Ava and Charlotte, siblings Isabelle Malyk, Christine O’Dell, Pat (Jim) Fraser, Allison (Karl) Norberg, Nick (Della) McManus and Leona Lazecki (Ken Horgas), his mother in-law Alice Peto, brother in-law Richard (Debbie) Peto, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to, are welcomed to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3. We would also like to thank all our friends and family who have supported us, and Phil, through this journey.
