Alma White

Obituary of Alma Ethel Mathilde White

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce Alma's passing at College Park II Retirement Residence in Regina, SK on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the age of 92. Alma was born to Rudolph and Mary (nee Flory) Schmeiser in Humboldt.  She grew up on the family farm near Fulda. In 1947, while working in Humboldt’s Depot Lunch Cafe she caught the eye of a young telegraph operator, named Clinton White who became her regular customer. In 1952 they married and lived in Humboldt for several years before moving to Saskatoon, Minneapolis, and finally to Regina where Clint began his career as a History Professor and later as an NDP Cabinet Minister. Together they enjoyed world travelling.

Throughout her life, Alma was a loving, devoted wife and homemaker. She  enjoyed baking pies, (apple was her specialty-made from their apple tree) and cakes for her family in the Humboldt area. Auntie Alma was well known for her chiffon cakes and her cake decorating skills were often called upon to create many special birthday cakes. During the summer months, Alma tenderly cared for her favourite flowers, pink geraniums which reminded her of her mother. Over the past 46 years she graciously welcomed family, friends and to quote Alma, “the best neighbours in the world” into her home with her gentle, humble disposition.

Alma is survived by Dr. Clinton White, her loving husband and best friend for 68 years; one brother-in-law, Don White of Toronto; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brother Raymond Schmeiser; sisters, Hattie Eggerman and Helen Musty; sisters-in-law; Mary White and Esther Schmeiser; brothers-in-law; Raymond Eggerman and Tony Musty; nephew Don Schmeiser; nieces, Shirley Thoms,Valerie White and Kathryn Bax.

Alma was so appreciative and happy for her life that she shared with others and for being Clint's caring wife. Our dear, sweet Alma was loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Special gratitude is extended to the compassionate Pasqua Hospital staff and to Bill Horbach from College Park II for his understanding and accommodations for both Alma and Clint.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a private memorial service for Alma will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. To view the livestream of the service please click on the link to Speers TV above.  Alma's final resting place will be in Humboldt's Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

The following message was found in Alma’s autograph book.

Dear Sister Alma

“May the pearly gates of heaven

So far beyond the sky,

Open wide some day, dear Alma

To welcome you and I”

Your Loving Sister Helen
