Obituary of Helen Elizabeth Child

Betty passed away, surrounded by the love of her family, at the age of 89 on Friday, July 3, 2020. She is survived by her daughters Sandra Child of Calgary, Donna (Tim) Cheesman of Victoria and Joan Fior of Saskatoon;  grandson Andrew (Yuki) Cheesman of Japan; granddaughter Kaitland Fior of Saskatoon; great-granddaughters Haruhi and Mikuru Cheesman of Japan; sister-in-law Maxyne Dawson; and nephew and nieces Grant, Karen and Charlene. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Dale Child; brother Robert Deyell; and brother-in-law Phil Dawson. Betty was a prize-winning baker and talented seamstress.  She loved gardening and had a very green thumb.  She was an avid knitter for her family and also donated many scarves and mittens to children in need.  She enjoyed playing and listening to music and attending plays. She loved to gather family and friends around the table for home-cooked meals that were all the better as she made everything with love. Betty always wanted her guests to have second helpings and was often heard to say "Help yourselves to seconds as it's no good left over." She always put others before herself and had a kind and caring way with everyone.
