It is with immense sadness the family of Kertis Allen Stein announce his sudden passing on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 41 years of age.

Kertis will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his father Brian Stein; his mother Erine (Bruce) Allen-Miller; his brother Kent Phil (Lynn) Stein; step-sisters, Laurie (Curt) Hawkins, and Krista (Ted) Kelly; step-brother Ron Miller; aunts, Jillian (Ted) Fyckes, and Dana (Rae) Fenwick; uncle Rod (Catriona) Allen; cousins, Jayson, Lisa, Kara, Jordan, Katie, Graham, and Paul; step-niece Lindsey; step-nephews, Eric, Keegan and Spencer; extended family; and countless dear and long-time friends.

Kertis was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank and Irene Stein and Arthur and Katherine Allen, and one of his best friends, Tanner Kaufmann.

Kertis was born in Regina May 20, 1979. From the start he had a zest for life and was full of smiles as the baby of his family. Growing up, he loved watching wrestling with his Dad and brother, practicing the moves and playing with his wrestler figurines. Saturday family movie night was a favourite and he downed huge bowls of popcorn and Super Big Gulps. Kertis played lots of shinney with the kids in Uplands and made lifelong friends there - Mike Wendel, Mike Frankiewitz, Mark Bell, Brent Jasper, Shawn Maier to name just a few. He attended St. Gregory and Ruth Pawson schools and later Robert Usher Collegiate where he earned the nickname “Foof”.

Kertis loved his Calgary Flames and wouldn’t miss a Rider game. He wore all his teams’ colours proudly in jerseys and hats and cheered them on like only Kertis could.

Through the years, he worked at several jobs he enjoyed in restaurants and hospitality and most recently vehicle maintenance.

He was always ready for a good time and had many over the years: at Craven, weddings, bars, May Long camping, and friendly get-togethers. He appreciated lots of music, especially country, and wasn’t afraid to belt out the words or show off his dance moves that were all his own.

Making friends seemed almost effortless for Kertis: his warm smile, his big laugh, his hugs, his easy to talk to personality.

Everyone has a Kertis story. He was the life of the party. He drew everyone around him in and made memories wherever he went. He was one of a kind, in the truest sense.

Kertis’s sudden passing has left a gaping hole in the world, and the worlds of all who knew him. Our hearts are broken yet full of love for having loved and been loved by Kertis. The stars are shining brighter, heaven has a new angel.

May we all remember and be like Kertis - smile, be kind, hug and most of all love.
