Kelly Selimos

Obituary of Kelly Selimos

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Kelly (Kallistratos) Selimos on Tuesday, July 7 , 2020.  He was predeceased by his parents George and Efrosini (Soula) Selimos and his brother Demitrios Selimos. Kelly is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Stavroula; daughter Soula (John), sons George (Melinda), Nikita (Twyla) and six grandchildren: Jessica, Zoe, Braeden, Kelly, Kristopher, and Alexander.  He is also survived by his brothers John (Georgia), Nick, and Paul (Astrid) Selimos and numerous nieces and nephews.  Kelly was born and raised in Kastri, Kinourias, Arkadia, Greece. In 1959, at 18 years of age, he immigrated to Canada and settled in Regina working at The Kings Hotel, La Salle Hotel and The Flamingo Cafe before traveling back to his homeland to marry the love of his life in 1967.  Upon return to Canada, he and his wife raised their family, devout in the Greek Orthodox Faith, as he worked at Ciros Restaurant and The Diplomat.  In 1989, Kelly became co-owner of Memories Fine Dining which he operated for 17 years before retiring in 2006.  In retirement, Kelly travelled to Kastri many summers where he enjoyed visiting his brother Demitri, many other relatives and friends, touring Greece, attending many church services and festivals, but most importantly enjoying the relaxing mountainside and town square of Kastri with his devoted wife by his side.  Kelly loved his family and was extremely proud of his three children. He loved traveling to Banff and to Penticton to visit relatives, gardening, taking long walks, and watching his grandkids play soccer.  Kelly had a special place in his heart for all his grandchildren and held a unique bond with Alex who he called his ‘best friend.’  He was a history buff and a passionate follower of all sports and statistics, in particular football and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, hockey and soccer. Kelly had many close coffee friends at Southland Mall and was a huge conversationalist and jokester.  He enjoyed his card and pizza gatherings twice a month at South Western Pizza with his Greek friends.  Sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff at the Pasqua Hospital, Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, and Regina Wascana Grace Hospice. Special thanks to Dr. Duffy for all the care and support.  May his memory be eternal.  Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK, on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions seating will be limited and access will be through the front doors unless the elevator is required.
