Obituary of Doreen Ida Longworth

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Longworth (nee Anderson) on July 14, 2020 at the age of 82 after a progressive battle with leukemia. She was predeceased by her parents Karl and Ida and her brothers, Bernard, Gordon, Ronald and Leonard. Doreen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Earl; their daughters, Colette (Brian Welder) and Carol; her grandsons Troy (Megan), Trevor (Gina) and Tyler (Kris); her great-grandchildren Ellis, Jesse, Lexi, Joe and Elliot; her sister Greta (Fred); her sisters-in-law Shirley and Nadia and numerous nieces and nephews. Doreen was born in Lafleche, Sk where she attended elementary and high school.   She taught Sunday School and was a member of the CGIT.  Her first job was as a telephone operator. Doreen and Earl were married in 1957 and made their home in Vantage, Sk. with their daughters. Doreen started her married life there as a homemaker.   In 1966 they moved to Regina where Carol could attend a school for those with special needs.  Doreen worked at the Elks Club and the Regina Flying Club before retiring to devote her time to her family.  Her many passions included baking, preserving fruit, reading, gardening, crocheting, knitting, having countless garage sales, playing bingo and picking wild saskatoons.  Doreen volunteered with Special Olympics for 35 years by running the bowling league with her good friend Jean and working countless bingo’s to raise funds for various Special Olympics sports.  Carol lived at home until the age of 55 and Doreen worked tirelessly until she was no longer able to ensure that Carol was safe, happy and involved in many weekly activities, all of which were attended by her mom. The family wishes to thank Dr. Haji Chalchal and Nurse John from the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic and Dr. Iffat Muhammed.  Thank you to the staff at Extendicare Parkside for taking care of Doreen for the past year. A Graveside Service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Social distancing measures will apply.
