Obituary of Mary Coons

On Friday, July 24, 2020, Mrs. Mary “Evelyn” Coons, age 98, passed away at William Albert House, Emerald Park, SK.  Evelyn is survived by her son Bob (Margaret) of Guelph, ON; daughters Donna (Louis) Ohly of Calgary, AB and Wanda (Terry) Ozem of Edmonton, AB; daughter-in-law Helen Coons-Schwark (Jamie) of Emerald Park, SK; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband Robert “Mel” Coons on January 4, 1991; her son Murray James Coons on August 17, 2007; her parents Louis and “Vera” Johannessohn; a brother Robert; her sister Vivian Schweitzer; half sister Audrey Haines and half-brother Ronald Johannesson. Evelyn was born on November 15, 1921 in Dinsmore, SK.  Her mother died shortly after childbirth and she was raised in Dinsmore by her Aunt Anna and Uncle Gilbert Mogan.  Evelyn attended Normal School and received her teaching certificate.  She also taught music.  Mel and Evelyn married in 1945 and they raised their children in Lloydminster and Regina, SK.  The family wishes to thank William Albert House for the wonderful care given to Evelyn.  Special thanks to Helen for being such a great caring friend and daughter-in-law to Evelyn. Graveside Service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assinisbonie Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Darrell Reine officiating. Please meet infront of the Cemetery Office by 9:45 a.m.  To view the livestream of the service, please click on the link above which will be made available on the day of the service.
