Donavon Poncsak

Obituary of Donavon Stuart John Poncsak

PONCSAK, Donavon

Don passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the age of 84 years. He was predeceased by his parents John and Helen. Don is survived by his loving wife Margaret; his nine children Stuart (Brenda Lee), Darcy (Frédérique), Warren (Debbie), Martin (Juliana), Garnet, Gayleen, Eldon (Josée), Cory (Julie-Roxanne), Trevor (Kimberly); nineteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Valarie; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was born in Stockholm, SK on October 31, 1935. He married Margaret Gelowitz on June 30, 1959. Don was employed by Sears Canada for 35 years and was very proud that he was retired for almost as long as he worked! Don was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and volunteered as a Hospital Pastoral Care Assistant and with the Frontiersmen. He called bingo at the Seniors Centre and was very involved with many church activities. Both Don and Marg enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas as snowbirds for many years.

Don was very proud of his children and their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all of their accomplishments which he would share with anybody that would listen, whether they wanted to or not! He was a man of many words. Don had a positive outlook on life, a smile that lit up a room, a great sense of humour, and an impeccable memory which served him well with crosswords and Jeopardy! His trademark was his fanny pack, a ball cap, and a cheap beer at 5pm.

A private service will be held. Friends may make donations to the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation, 162 Oxford Street West, Moose Jaw, SK S6H 2N6. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
