Dear Allyson, Scott and Bruce:
I was both friend and family to your Mom. We met when we were 15 years old and both were students at Balfour High School. Freda had started seeing my brother James, but he was busy with his part-time job with the CPR so Freda and I had time to see a good deal of each other. She joined our church, which was similar to the German Baptist church she was raised in. Freda loved singing in the choir and participating along with me in our Young People’s group, which became a great part of our next few years.
Once your Mom and Jim married, we became sisters-in-law. When they had the three of you, and I married Ralph, we bought homes just a couple of blocks apart from each other. Ralph and I thought the three of you kids were absolutely the best children in the world – enough so that we decided to have five of our own! We enjoyed many get togethers when our children were young, trading off hosting Christmas and New Year’s gatherings, and later on visiting at each other’s cottages on Katepwa Lake.
Your Mom was a very good companion, always up for trying something new and keeping things lively. We remained good friends throughout the years. Ralph and I enjoyed many nice evenings with Freda and Mel – one highlight being a spring visit with them in Laguna, California. It was also nice to enjoy visits with Freda and Doug – they dropped in at our cottage many times on the way to or from the Smith cottage. And during this time, Freda and I kept up our friendship with regular afternoon visits.
I have so many fond memories, especially of the years when our families were young. Your Mom and Dad and the three of you and your families will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Please accept our sincere condolences, and our wish that you will find comfort in the many good memories of your Mom.
Love Aunt Margaret and Uncle Ralph

We send our sympathy to Freda's family. Freda was a good, fun loving friend for many years. We really enjoyed our golf and time together. She truly loved her family, her garden, and her golf and music. She also loved a good glass of wine. She lived her life to the utmost. We shared many good memories and stories.
Bless you dear heart and you are now at peace.
Love you, Marianne and Keith Rever

Re-loading the lighthouse painting. It didn't load on first attempt.

Here's a couple of my favourite water colour paintings mom has done. Despite not having many years of experience behind her, I think mom had a real eye for colour and a flare for composition. I can say from experience, these are not easy to do, especially the lighthouse. I remember her getting so excited talking about her painting, and was always encouraging me to get back into my painting. I can now say to mom that I finally did get back into it just last year, and I am enjoying it, hopefully just as much as she did.

Here's a good picture of mom during one of her 'happy hours'. Not sure where this taken, but its dated 1995 on the back. I used to enjoy joining mom in those happy hours.

Here's a great photo of mom in her happier years, when she was on the executive of the wascana golf club. Mom was actually not a bad golfer. Didn't hit the ball far but was always straight down the fairway. I enjoyed the times we got out together when she visited me out here in Ontario.
