DERRICK, Freda

Late of Regina, SK, Freda Derrick passed away peacefully on October 9, 2020 at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her first husband, Jim Smith; second husband, Mel Derrick; parents, Joseph Kelsch and Ruby Kelsch; and brother, Siggy Kelsch.  Freda is survived by daughter, Allyson (Rod) Norrish; grandchildren, Jay Norrish (Beth Barkhouse) and Brendon Norrish; and great- grandchildren, Jaden Norrish and Tayshia Norrish of Strongfield, SK; son, Scott (Joann) Korpan-Smith; grandchildren, Tyler Smith (Christina LaBrash), James Smith and Jackson Smith; and great-grandchildren, Reese Smith and Emmit Smith of Regina, SK; son, Bruce (Louise) Smith; grandchildren, Owen Smith and Chelsey (Mark) Mater; and great-grandchildren, Blake Mater and Dallas Mater.  Freda lost her first husband Jim at a young age and went on to have a second happy marriage to Mel Derrick who was Deputy Minister of Public Health which lead them to live in Korea for a year.  After his passing, she enjoyed the companionship of her friend Doug Rafuse and continued to travel to Laguna Beach, San Marcos and Canada's east coast.  Freda loved her home and garden in Regina and enjoyed time in the summer at Katepwa Beach.  She golfed at the Wascana Golf Club for many years and served as president at one time.  Freda loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and singing in her church choirs in Regina and Laguna Beach.  She was proud of her family and took great delight in her Grandchildren.  Freda loved to paint in oils and water colors and had a showing in Laguna Beach, California where she sold some of her art.  The family would like to thank the caregivers of Pioneer Village 4W for the years of loving and tender care they gave our Mom and to the caregivers at Brightwater who kept her comfortable in her last days.  Freda will be Interred at Regina Riverside Memorial Park at a private service.
