My sincerest sympathy, Melba and family. Your and Vaughan's ministry and friendship is forever etched into my memory. Jim and I had been so blessed by your friendship all the years we've known you and how you came along side of us repeatedly to cheer and encourage. We learned so much during our years as coordinators for CEF. One of the lessons Vaughan presented at one of the Retreats still resonates with me, when talking about Moses coming up against the Red Sea, with the Egyptians in pursuit, Vaughan told us that Moses was standing on the "edge of a miracle!" He was always so positive, always helping us to see the possibilities, instead of the obstacles. His ready smile and sense of humour was so refreshing. May the Lord comfort you during this sad time and grant you His peace! Much love and prayers for the God of all comfort to wrap you in His loving arms, and give you His Peace!

Praise the Lord for a life well lived.
"I know not why God's wondrous grace" and "Praise the Saviour, ye who know Him" were two hymns that remind me of camp. Dauphin was home for me also. I was a camper who accepted the Lord Jesus as my Saviour in 1946 as Vaughan and others.
We grew up when country school districts existed. Many in our district are eternally thankful, the Lord sent Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Campbell who faithfully taught us the scriptures, encouraged Bible verse memorization and held the first Bible camp in the area.
Vaughan certainly did the same in so many, many, many areas of the country with his family.
Our prayer, Melba and family is that the God of all comfort and blessing will continue to be your strength .

Uncle Vaughan has been a huge encouragement and inspiration to me throughout my life. His thankfulness to God and love for the Lord evident in the latter years was particularly encouraging to me. May the Lord wrap His arms of comfort around Aunt Melba and his family.
Love,
Kirk and Patti Durston

We have many great memories of observing Vaughn's faith in the early years of our ministry. It's great to see the legacy of Vaughn's faith being lived out in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. God bless you Melba, and family, as you celebrate a life well-lived.

What fond memories I have of Vaughan as he was always advocate of serving children and good news clubs and more. He added so much to the ministry of Briercrest in my days. While seeking to help students gain field education and Christian service equipping and opportunities Vaughan was such a significant help. I am speaking for Briercrest in passing on our sincere condolences Melba and family. What a loss he is too you and in many ways what a loss to the Kingdom service of Jesus that he so lived for. Again condolences on behalf of Briercrest College and Seminary. Our prayers are with you at this time. President Michael Pawelke and the Briercrest team and family join me in expressing sincere condolences to you.
Prayerfully,
Paul Magnus, President Emeritus

Although we know Vaughan is now in Heaven, probably searching for David and Jonathan, he leaves a large gap in a large family. May God our Heavenly Father fill that gap with His own peace and presence, and may you find joy in remembering the love Vaughan had for all of you.
I will always remember him as a man of great vision and passion for the evangelism of children, in particular. We worked closely together for about 16 years and had some great times together. We also had lots of disagreements, but Vaughan's patient longsuffering with me was of proverbial proportions. I will certainly miss him and his phone calls which always began, "Brian, Vaughan here."

To Jerry and Sharon and family: I was a student at Briercrest Bible Institute from 1964-67. I remember your dad coming to campus to recruit students to run their week-day clubs. I was one of those who responded, and for at least one year, I travelled to Regina with a group of other students and conducted a club in the home of a family that attended the Nazarene church. I know that good memories and the hope of the resurrection will bring comfort, even as he leaves a great hole in your lives.

This message is for Cindy - while I doubt you remember me, we went to highschool together in 1979-1980? - interestingly my parents purchased your family home on Deergrove Cres back then and when exploring my new home I found a sticker on the inside of the laundryroom door, it saying something to the effect "if you do not want your life, give it to God and he will use it" - while I'm not a religious person this quote has always inspired me to live my life accordingly - I just wanted you to know that even something as insignificant as that little sign (maybe your mom stuck it up?) guided a life down a better path! My condolences to your family - Roxanne Tegart

Mr. Durston has had a large impact on my life. I was enrolled in the David and Jonathan program for 9 years and was also able to serve with Child Evangelism Fellowship and later directly under Vaughan with D and J. I will always remember the road trip we took to Calgary to visit the office and the large amount of wisdom that he shared with me from God's Word. In the years to come he would consistently call me to check on on me to make sure that I I had 'bread and water' and to continue to build into my life. I will miss him greatly and praise God for the legacy he has left!
