Obituary of Ruth Gwendolyn Taylor

With sadness, we announce the passing of our mum, Ruth Taylor.  Ruth was a force!  Full of life and wit with a playful hint of irreverence.  Her sense of fun, kindness and generosity drew people to her, and she leaves many dear friends.  Mum’s fortitude is indescribable:  she had a depth of strength to draw on to accomplish gargantuan tasks.  Her dedication and love to her children and grandchildren was expressed in part through weekly family feasts for 20+ people, special meals, thoughtful gifts during birthday season (5 in 2 weeks!) and magical Christmas events.  Mum’s commitment to family and friends was boundless and unconditional. 

Ruth had a love for and a command of the English language. This served her well in her final careers as a Hansard Editor and as a contractor for Saskatchewan Justice transcribing preliminary hearings.  Ruth didn’t fully retire until she was well into her 80s. Until the time of her passing, mum was fiercely independent.  At the age of 84, mum got inked with a beautiful memorial tattoo for her granddaughter, Lily.  A life well lived Ruth, you “did it your way”.

Ruth was born in Langham SK to Gerald Bryden and Hilda Penner.  She married Regina farmer Bill Taylor, and devoted her life to raising their six children.  Ruth carried the loss of her husband, Bill; granddaughter Lily; and great granddaughter Etta.  Left to honour Ruth’s legacy, sister, Gerry Atchison of Cranbrook BC; children: Patty (Bryan) Barootes of Lake Charles LA, Kathy Taylor of Kimberley BC, Gerald Taylor (Kelly Liberet) of Regina, Laura Taylor (Bill Clary) of Regina, Jennifer Taylor (Abraham Van der Breggen) of Regina, and James Taylor (Joanne Sinai) of Victoria BC; grandchildren: Morgan (Josh) Campbell, Will (Cait) Reed, Eve Reed (Devin Istace), Leah Taylor, Adam (Catie) Schentag, Ben (Janelle) Schentag, Kate  Schentag (Tim England), Daniel (Elysia) Molder, Sarah Molder (Drue Wharton), Owen Taylor, and Liam Taylor; great-grandchildren: Clare and Greer Campbell, Billie Rose and Walter Reed, Bryden, Noah and Abby Schentag, and Felix Molder;  step- grandchildren: Ben, Erika and Rebekka Barootes; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful to Dr. Baumann for his compassion and gentle energy.
