Obituary of Arnold Jack Schwartz
Arnold died on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his father Morris Schwartz and mother Tilley and his brother Alex. Arnold is survived by niece Candice Freed (Stephen), children, Marissa Shinewald ( Michael), Jonathon Freed (Genna), and Jacob Freed; niece, Linda Sawyer (Mel), children, Michael McCheyne, Devyn McCheyne, and Reegan McCheyne; nephew Morry Schwartz (Bernie), children, Dorian Schwartz and Reed Schwartz. Lily, Ruby, and Saul were his great-great-nieces and great-great-nephew, children of his great-niece and great-nephew, Marissa and Michael Shinewald. His family were very important to him.
Mr. Schwartz attended Central Collegiate in Regina and on graduation was accepted into medical school at the University of Manitoba. He interrupted his studies to volunteer for service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.
After the war he returned to Canada and went into business for himself as a very successful representative of a number of lines of men's clothing before returning to Regina in 1956 to open Hunt’s Ltd, a menswear clothing store.
His first store was a small store located on 11th Ave. He subsequently expanded that store and relocated to Avord Tower. He finally expanded that store into larger premises located in the Hotel Saskatchewan. He remained at that location until he retired in 2005.
At the time that he opened his own store in 1956 he was one of 19 independent menswear stores in Regina. By the time he retired in 2005 there were fewer than five and in the opinion of many he set the standard.
He was known as one of the best haberdasher's with an unequalled ability to be able to measure made-to-measure bespoke clothing with such brands as Shiffer-Hillman, Samuelson and Warren K Cooke. It was said he could fit a camel. His sense of style and color was unsurpassed.
Mr. Schwartz was active in the community throughout his business career and was the originator of the rebranding of the Regina Exhibition Association as Buffalo Days.
