Sister Frances Bonokoski passed away peacefully at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home on December 31, 2020 at the age of 93 years. She was born on April 8, 1927 at Marienthal, Saskatchewan, near Torquay to Anton and Zita (nee Schnell) Bonokoski.  She grew up in a family of 15 children and is survived by her brother Gordon and sister Mary Lou (Ray) Audette.  Frances will be missed by them and her many nieces, nephews and sisters in the Congregation of Our Lady of the Missions.  Frances entered religious life at Sacred Heart College in July 1946.  Frances' life revolved around teaching.  She began teaching at Sacred Heart Academy, Sacred Heart College and Lebret and then engaged in a variety of educational activities.  Some of these included the Archdiocesan Marriage Tribunal, New Beginnings, Gerontology sessions, leadership positions and the training of young sisters in the Congregation.  Frances was very positive and hospitable with a great capacity for friendship.  Many benefited from her unconditional love and concern for those in need.  Frances was open to the world and eager to keep learning.  During the last few years, while experiencing various health issues, she always remained hopeful.  The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions are most grateful for the gracious and loving care she received from the staff at Santa Maria. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Cathedral on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. followed by interment at Riverside Memorial Park.  Due to COVID, attendance is restricted.  To view the livestream of the service please click on the link above.
