Obituary of Norman Victor Vindevoghel

It is with our deepest regrets that Norman (Norm) Vindevoghel has passed away at the age of 69 years on Thursday, January 28th, 2021 at the Regina General Hospital in the MICU ward due to complications of COVID-19.

Norm was born in 1951 and raised in Montmartre, SK and lived in the farming community with his parents Art and Gertie, his brother Maurice, and sister Judy.  He had a love for farm life. Norm had his own horse that he loved and raised as a kid. As he grew up, his passion quickly became cars and learning to work on them.  Norm never took any formal education to become a mechanic but he quickly learned and was very good at it and could get any vehicle running with a lot of determination.

In 1970, Norm met Linda and it was love at first sight. He was quite determined to get a date with Linda and proved that he would do anything until she would agree to have just one date.  Norm and his friend Brian drove in reverse for two blocks until Linda would agree to go on a date.  Two weeks later Norm proposed to Linda and six months later they were married on August 7, 1971 in Regina surrounded by family and friends.  Norm and Linda celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this past August.

In March of 1973, Norm and Linda were blessed with their first born and only daughter Daphne. Then blessed again in July 1975 with their first born son Trevor and again in May of 1978 when their son Darcy was born.  Norm worked as a mechanic for Trailer Town working on RVs until the mid-1980s when he was injured on the job. Norm and Linda raised their family for about nine years in Pilot Butte, SK where together they made lots of friendship and started new adventures before moving out to an acreage in Wolseley, SK.  His dream to have his own farm with Linda took off in 1988, and he loved having cattle, pigs, and chickens. In 1992 they left the farm to move back to Regina. At this time he started working as a heavy duty mechanic for Quill Transport.

Norm, Trevor, Darcy, and nephew Kelly started building race cars and would take them out to Kings Park Speedway.  Norm and Linda watched as their children grew up, got married and started having their own families. Very proud grandparents to Austyn and Ainsley, son and daughter of Trevor and Nicole; as well as Noah, Brady, and Drew, sons and daughter to Darcy and Lindsay, and fur grandparents to Daphne as she never had any children of her own. Norm and Linda took on a new adventure when they purchased Phatt Boys Custom Design on Victoria Ave in Regina.  It was then that they purchased what was one of Norm’s other loves, a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Together they loved getting out on the road on the bike, it was their passion with a lot of their biker friends. In September of 2014, Norm decided to come out of retirement and started driving school bus with Warner Transportation and he loved doing this job up until death.

Norm met so many people and made friends so easily. He was loved by all that knew him.  Norm would go above and beyond for anyone in need of help. Those who knew Norm would say he was a stubborn man but a loved man. Norm has many cousins, that over the years they would get together.  Many nieces and nephews who called him uncle. And brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who have been good to Norm.

As a family we would like to express our thanks to the Regina General Hospital on 5E and also Medical ICU with all the numerous doctors, nurses and  staff who took such good care of Norm in his short time there.

A private visitation will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 5, 2021.  Due to COVID 19 restrictions the family invites both friends and family to pay their respects virtually on Friday, February 5, 2021 between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. via a Zoom visitation.  You may join this call by following the link above Norman’s obituary. Due to Covid, we will hold a Memorial Service for Norm in the Spring/Summer where we can get together with family and friends and do a ride for him the way he would have wanted his life celebrated. Family and friends so wishing may make donations in memoriam to the Regina General Hospital Medical ICU, 1440 14th Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 0W5 or the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 2308 Arlington Avenue, Saskatoon, SK, S7J 3L3.

Thank you to all of our family and friends for all of your calls, messages condolences and support.  We know Norm was loved.

Stay safe.
