It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Karen Deanne Aulie (Weckman). She was born April 2, 1963 and was raised in Rouleau, SK.

Karen and her husband Bill had two children, Keith and Krystal, who they raised on the family farm just outside of Rouleau. Karen made the farm and the family tick, balancing a growing farming operation, a demanding career and active kids with enthusiasm and grace.

Karen completed her Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan and dedicated her entire career to public service, having just celebrated her 35th year with the Government of Saskatchewan. She was well known as a common sense leader, holding several senior positions throughout her tenure, most recently as the Deputy Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety.

Karen exemplified true community spirit, selflessly volunteering with the local 4-H and dance clubs, school council and rink, the Regina Beach Yacht Club, and as a group fitness instructor in Regina and Rouleau.  She also helped found Hockey & Hearts, a non-profit organization that has raised millions of dollars to support sports and recreational endeavours in the community.

The Aulie cabin at Buena Vista was Karen’s happy place, and she never missed an opportunity to splash on the beach with her grandchildren or entertain family and friends. Travel was another one of her passions and she especially looked forward to trips to tropical ocean destinations and to watch Keith play hockey.

Although her life was cut short due to complications from a prolapsed heart valve, Karen didn’t waste a day, an hour or one minute of her 57 years. She lived life to the fullest – if she wasn’t in the midst of an activity, dance, party, or trip, she was busy planning one. Karen will be missed for her energy and smile, and her love for life.

She was predeceased by her mother, Adelaide Weckman. Karen leaves behind her husband Bill; father Gerald Weckman; children Keith (Ashley) and Krystal (Sheldon); and grandchildren Emerson, Liam and Blair.
