The recording of the service is availabe below
Joe was born on the farm near Sedley, Sask. in September of 1918, number 8 of 17 children. He was born in a pandemic year and left this earth in a pandemic year.
Joe completed his 3 r’s (reading, riting and rithmetic) at Friedenthal School and finished his education at St. Anthony's College in Edmonton, Alberta. After College he returned to help on the family farm near Sedley until joining the army in 1943. Joe started his army career in Montreal with intensive training specifically geared to decode German Army communications. He was deployed overseas and was stationed in several countries but mainly Italy.
After being discharged from the army in 1946, Joe returned once again to the farm until he started his career with the PFRA (Prairie Farm and Rehabilitation Administration - a branch of Agriculture and Agri Food Canada) in the mid-1960s. He was first employed as a welder but eventually he was directed into pasture management where he stayed until his retirement.
Joe touched many lives throughout his working and retirement years. He volunteered at the Marion Centre, drove meals on wheels, and ran the printing press for the Archdiocese of Regina (Gopherhole Press). For a short time Joe photographed weddings for friends and family and captured a picture or two of bucking broncos on the rodeo circuit.
After retirement he constructed a miniature working windmill, machined a miniature working sterling engine, built a bicycle powered boat and gave driving lessons to family and friends. Joe was always up for a challenge or lending a helping hand to anyone who asked.
