Jean is survived by her eight children:  Rob (Ingrid) children Carmen (Roger), Anna, Rhys; Laureen (Paul) Millette daughters Sarah (Garrett), Victoria (Travis); Don (Vivian) daughters Blake, Jordyn; Blair (Debra) daughters Kristalee and Katelyn (Wil); Bev (Brian) Krett daughter Jennifer; Gord (Jamie) his sons Taylor (Caittie), Jackson; Tim (Laurine) children Campbell, Sally; Carleen (Lance) Brown daughter Grace, Danielle (Raymond); great-grandchildren Arlo, Lillie-Anne, Lydia, Adeline, Riley; brother Joe McGinn; sisters-in-law Jean Cogger, and Frances McGinn; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was born on July 25, 1936 in Moose Jaw, SK and was the youngest in a family of six. She attended high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Regina, continuing to live and work in Regina afterwards.  It was there she met and fell in love with Cam Currie.  They married on April 26, 1958, lived in Estevan for a short time then returned to Regina to raise their family. After all the kids had left home, they moved to Regina Beach, living there for 19 years, returning to live in Regina for the last 6 years.  Jean was outgoing and had a zest for life.  She loved being around people and they liked being around her.  Everywhere Jean lived or travelled she met people who became lifelong friends.  She served her community as an active member of church parishes to which she belonged over the years, was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) at Christ the King parish and served on the board of Help Homes (Regina).

Jean devoted herself to her family and was most joyful when surrounded by them. As a mother she was selfless and her love unconditional.  She made her home a joyful place for all, full of people, laughter, music and life. She was a great cook and loved hosting dinners with family and/or friends.  In her later years, as her spaces became smaller in size she found great joy in hosting smaller groups as well as tea parties with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Jean had a great sense of humour and enjoyed a good joke.  She learned how to use an iPad several years ago so she could trade jokes with friends and family and we received one from her almost daily.  She Face Timed often on her iPad to those who lived at a distance as connection to family meant so much to her.  She loved to shop and find that great bargain.  There wasn’t a sales rack around the world that was safe from her and garage sales attracted her like a magnet.

Jean loved a good card game, especially if there was a wager involved.  Even the grandkids knew to bring their nickels with them when they were going to play cards with Grandma.   Bridge was her passion though and she spent many afternoons playing Bridge with friends throughout the years, only stopping when the pandemic made it impossible to gather.  More recently she learned to play Tile Rummy, and  she played often with her friends at Marian Chateau.

Jean enjoyed travelling and was thrilled to visit many places in Canada, US and Mexico.  In addition, she took trips to Ireland, the UK, Holland, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, and Australia.  Many trips were with Dad and friends, but the more exotic destinations were usually with one of her kids.

The family is grateful to all the Health Care Professionals at the Pasqua Hospital involved in Mom’s care this past weekend, to Homecare who has provided care and a variety of services to Jean over the last couple of years and to her friends and the staff at Marian Chateau who became her extended family.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean may be made to St. Martin de Porres Parish at 4720 Castle Road, Regina SK, S4S 4X1 or Wascana Grace Hospice Centre, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6.
