Dale Ulmer

Obituary of Dale Alvin Ulmer

Dale Alvin Ulmer, of Bethune, SK, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2021 at the age of 68 years with his family by his side.  Predeceased by his parents Gerald and Verna and mother-in-law Betty, Dale is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Rhonda; sons, Trevor (Morgan) and Trent (Jenn) of Calgary, and Craig (Dana) and Kyle (Andi) of Regina; grandchildren, Morganna, Ryan, Rebecca, Greyson, Leighton, Brooklyn, Gibson, Holden, and Sutton; brothers, Dennis (Debbie), Doug (Bernie), David (Shelley) and sister Debby Wisniewski; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Dale was incredibly involved in Bethune, serving a ten year stretch as Mayor, and decades on every board and association that touched him.  He was known for his fierce pride and commitment to his family, his friends and his community.  Dale was a natural leader who had the gift of making people feel like they were important, a part of something, and most of all welcome, whether he’d known them for years or had just met them.  He cherished his wife Rhonda, his boys and their wives, and especially his grandkids.  Dale beamed with pride and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them, call them, or just show off pictures to whoever happened to be lucky enough to be with him.  As a youth, Dale was a competitive baseball and hockey player, and he valued the life lessons associated with sport and instilled his love of sport in his sons.  He was always involved with their teams as a coach, manager and supporter, and had an impact on an entire generation of youth in the community. Dale was instrumental in driving the fundraising efforts for the new rink, spending nearly every available moment at the new site spearheading the construction.  One of the most important days to Dale every year was the July 1st Baseball Tournament and Canada Day Celebrations, which he always made sure finished with a bang through the fireworks display.  One of Dale’s lasting legacies is the Bethune Bulldogs Hockey Club.  He played for the Bulldogs for many successful seasons, and when the time came, he jumped right in and drove the campaign to get the Bulldogs back into the Highway Hockey League.  Dale served as Coach, Manager, and general leader of the Club for the past 20 seasons.  In this capacity, he provided an opportunity for his sons and numerous young men to continue playing the game they love, and the community a team that they could be proud of.  Dale and Rhonda’s place was home to countless surrogate sons and daughters, and it was in this manner that his impact was most deeply felt, and his time most enjoyed.  Dale was also passionate about his careers.  He worked alongside his father at Bethune Farm Equipment for many years and farmed with his brothers.  Most recently, he was with the AgriStability Program where he was able to assist farmers in the success of their operations and formed many long-lasting relationships with coworkers and growers alike.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bethune Community Sports Centre, PO Box 89, Bethune, SK S0G 0H0, or through https://gofund.me/fda2a1fa.
