Julie and family I just found out about Lou’s passing. My sincerest condolences to you all.
I played many rounds of poker with him. At my place, your place and other friend’s places. He won most of them. I can’t believe he’s gone. Such a kind man. Too soon. All my best.

Dear Jackie and Sherri,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear son and loving brother.
It is hard to think of Louis passing away at age forty-nine. I recall the many times he was an eager playmate of Sean and Michelle, especially in his pre-school and elementary school years.
Your neighbour and friend of many years on Simpson Road in Regina,
Louisa Kozey

Please accept our sincere condolences on the all too soon loss of Lou. He was always a welcome and enthusiastic member of our poker group. We will miss his sense of fair play, his sense of humour and his ability to navigate a build your own sandwich table. It won't be the same without him. May his memory be a blessing.

I first met Lou for a coffee and a business meeting. We hit it off straight away. We decided to meet up for another meeting to brainstorm about a new business idea he had. After the second meeting, we created and launched a product together. We had so much fun and got our sons involved with helping us to design and promote our new product in our community. From that moment on we became more than business partners, we became friends. It was such a pleasure to have a business partner that I could 100% trust that he would "do what he said he would do." ~ My heart goes out to his family and I will forever cherish the conversations and fun times we had doing our business project together.

I remember babysitting Louis when the family lived in Regina. He was such a happy little boy - so delightful to care for. It is clear that he grew into a wonderful son, husband and father, taken too soon. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Sunshine and Zilz families. May you find strength in one another to get through this difficult time.

Our past five years of friendship were some of the best days of our lives. From memories made, to so many experiences had - we are better for knowing you, and so unbelievably grateful for the time we had with you.
From seeing you a few times a month, to spending almost every single Friday with you, talking daily, exploring different restaurants (although, Katanas seemed to be on repeat) and then obviously having some competitive cribbage games (when you won it was skill, when I skunked you it was luck, so you liked to tell me!) to travelling to Vegas (you loved telling the story of Gaven’s 3-7 off suite all in call that night at Harrahs), or house boating on the Shuswap where your car didn’t have room for anything else (seriously, your back seat was empty!) to post pandemic travel plans (we were really trying to convince Julie that post vaccine Mexico was a great option - she wasn’t quite on board, but we were working on it!) you not only became one of our best friends, we became family.
You have been our rock, our confidant, our jokester and prankster (I never got you back for the water bottle and coin trick that ended with water all over my face - yes I fell for your persuasive ways, such a blonde moment for me), to our most loyal and trusted person.
Our bubble of three, doing our weekend rituals of some poker, some good ol’ banter and plenty of inside jokes - I loved the times we got to spend with Julie too, because she’s quicker than you and caught on to the jokes and she was poking fun at you with us!
You were so kind Lou, you took the time to bring Johnny Kit-Kat bars on a Friday night or spent time with my parents and Johnny showing them how to drone - as my mom says - you could light up any room you entered!
Our friends learned quickly there was never a Gaven and Kelly without a Lou - we were the 3 amigos that loved doing a lot of our social outings together as a unit, and it went without saying if Gav and I were going, you were our third wheel always - and we loved it!
You were a great family man Lou. You loved Julie to no end, you use to tell us how you got so lucky with her being such a strong supportive partner, and an exceptional mother. Those young men of yours are your pride and joy. You and Gaven searched high a low for Jordan’s car, and then you found a way to get Jeff’s rims shipped across Canada. There wasn’t anything you wouldn’t do for them, you were so proud of them and such a great dad.
There is so much to say, so much to tell, and we had so many plans - Lou, losing you has gutted us to the core. But we are extremely blessed and forever grateful for the time we shared with you, the memories we created, and the lessons we learned from you (there was always a lesson!). You will forever live on in our hearts, and we will always cherish our forever friendship. We love you beyond words, and miss you beyond comprehension.
#committed - party of 3
Love Kelly and Gaven

Julie and family, my thoughts are with you during this time and so sorry for your loss. I was fortunate enough to see Lou in Las Vegas a couple of years before after a long time of not seeing him - it was a joy to see him again. The stories and memories that we shared from our days at Laurier will always be with me and some of the best experiences of my life. Lou always brought out the joyous times in any situation he was in.
I would say one of the best things that a group of us did that year at Laurier was to reach out and befriend Lou who was an outsider from another school. Everyone who knows Lou knows he is not an outsider for very long and he was instrumental in making our last year of school the best.
Lou, you will be greatly missed for your friendship and your shining light. The memories you left behind are endless and for that I thank you. Looking forward to seeing you again my friend as you sit at the poker table with your pool ball shirt on!!!! Till we see each other again my friend.

Our sincere condolences on your loss. We met Lou through our son Troy and our memories are ones of laughter and friendship. To say that Lou was a force to be reckoned with would be an understatement and I know that he was always ready to support our son and his family and for that alone I will be eternally grateful. There are no words to describe the emptiness that exists when a man of strength and will and love is taken way too soon. May you find comfort in the presence of family and friends and may Lou rest in eternal peace. Marilyn and Kevin Collins

I met Lou in high school and what I noticed about him was how he always brought something positive into the room. When we and fellow classmates reconnected years ago online, I saw nothing had changed. :-) Bless him and may he Rest In Peace.

Wednesday morning I lost my best friend. My heart is empty and so many questions of why and how could this be enters my mind. I know that Lou is in a happy place right now with his father who he loved and cared for dearly.
While tears run down my cheek, I know our friendship will carry on for a lifetime. Thank you for always being my friend and supporting me. I know you would not want the people in your life to feel grief or pain but you are missed and in weeks and months from now the fond memories, lessons you left with us will all enrich our lives for the better.
Lou, or uncle Lougie as my youngest kids called him, was a true friend and he wanted the best for everyone in his life. I have fond memories watching Lou teaching his sons sales or find ways to achieve success in what they wanted. Whether that was getting gum balls at jungle jacks or striving for success in sports, Lou had a strategy. In the end he was so proud of both of his boys for all their success and all the possibilities for their future. Julie he loved you so much and was always so appreciative for the stability and love he always felt. Family was the most important to Lou.
I’ll never forget our night in Vegas when I dragged him to every single casino on Fremont Street to play at least one game of craps in each casino. He was a good sport and just went along for the ride as I made the determination if I felt like the tables were lucky enough for us.
Our car rides to play hockey together, our curling team, when he tricked me into the one chip challenge and then laughed as he poured me glasses of milk to make the burning stop or coaching our boys hockey teams together. Lou also taught me how to find every deficiency in my new home with a spotlight. That sure made the builder unhappy, but the persistence to win and be successful is something that will never be forgotten. Lou wanted to see the best in everyone.
Lou, I can’t thank you enough for the amazing memories I will carry for a lifetime. I feel broken now that you are gone, but I will find strength to make you proud. Smile from above and know you were loved!
“Don’t cry because it ended, Smile because it happened”
Lou you enriched my life, made me stronger and wiser and I can’t thank you enough for your support, love and lessons. I am grateful for our friendship and will treasure all of our memories.

I have known Louis since he was born, watched him grow to be able to be at his bar mitzvah and wedding. Always heard the pride and joy he brought to his loving other Jackie! His love and devotion for his family, sister and his mother was unending.

I worked with Lou’s mom Jackie what a wonderful family! Louie would always say to me “Thank you for giving my mom the job she has, it has been a god sent for her.”. Any son who looks after his moms well being is someone special. Louie and all the Zilz, Sunshine, Tractman, Klass and Kepler Families are very dear and close to my heart. Louie will be missed by all. A life gone too soon, as they say the good die young and he certainly had a lot more life to live. Live on in spirit Louie you will ALWAYS be remembered.

Oy Julie. This is surreal. My deepest condolences on your loss, to you and the boys. I liked Lou from the moment I met him, in the infamous J softball league. Lou was always so encouraging, always had a pat on the back no matter what each player did out there. He loved his sports and that his son got his license had him just beaming with pride as does everything his kids achieve of course. It was so nice having him come over to play poker before covid came along and we'll miss seeing him when it resumes. You've lost your wonderful soul mate, partner and we've lost a friend. His memory for us is a blessing. May it always be for you as well. We'll be in touch when you get back. Sending you love and strength for Sunday as you give Lou love for all of us who can't be there.
Sincerely,
Sheila and Richard Sontz
