With sorrow and heartbreak, I announce the passing of my husband and best friend Bob on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in Regina, SK. I was at his side holding his hand. Bob was predeceased by his parents Fred and Florence Cade; parents-in-law Alphonse and Mary Cianflone; siblings Stan, Fred, John, Winnifred and Nora; sisters and brothers-in-law Muriel, Gail, Pat, Jeanne, Gordon, Fred, Cliff, Roman Cianflone, and Howard and Rose Elasz. He is survived by the love of his life Valerie. They celebrated their 53rd Anniversary in June 2020; siblings Charles, Ted, Ken, and Joan; sisters-in-law Shirley Cianflone and Edie Cade; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob was born in Stoney Mountain, Manitoba on November 29, 1933. He was employed with Barber-Ellis Paper Co in Winnipeg. In 1965 he was transferred to Saskatoon and later to Regina. Bob left the Company and went to work for the Provincial Government (SPMC) in Regina. He retired in 1999.
Bob served with the Canadian Forces (Army) for 61 years. He joined the RWR in Winnipeg in 1949. Bob also served with 27 Bde (Germany), Queen’s Own Rifles, N Sask R -Saskatoon where he met his wife who was also with the Regt. He transferred to the Royal Regina Rifles when he moved to Regina. Bob held the position of Commanding Officer, HLCol & HCol with the Rifles. He retired in 2010. Bob was instrumental in obtaining the title “Royal” for the Royal Regina Rifles with The Princess Royal, Princess Anne as their Colonel-in-Chief. He was awarded the Queen’s Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. Bob was ADC to 3 Lieutenant’s Governor of Saskatchewan.
Before and after his retirement he volunteered with many organizations. To name a few - St. John Ambulance obtaining the rank of Knight of St John KstJ, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and Governor with the Corps of Commissionaires. He and Valerie enjoyed travelling to destinations such as the UK, Italy, New Zealand, USA, and Canada which included a number of River Cruises. Bob’s hobbies included reading, writing short stories, and especially golf. He will now be able to golf on “God’s” golf course with departed golf partners, Bill, Terry and Hal.
We want to thank Dr. Suri for his care for many years. Also thank you to, as Bob called them, his “Angels” the Doctors, Nurses, Techs and support staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, and to the Palliative Home Care nurses and staff (you know who you are) who kept him comfortable at home, and finally the nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined.
