Shirley Sundwall

Obituary of Shirley Ann Sundwall

Shirley Sundwall of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on June 11, 2021 at the age of 70. Shirley was predeceased by her father James Hawes; husband Keith Sundwall and mother in-law Helen (Herb) Dabrowski. Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her mother Irene Hawes of Regina; her three children, Brett of Calgary, Brad of Regina and daughter Remy (Jim) of White City; three grandchildren, Gavin, Hailey (their mother Tanyas) all of Calgary and Brantley of White City; one brother Gary (Lynn) Hawes of Rowans Ravine; her lifelong best friend Terri Mollison of Cochrane; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Shirley spent her 15 year career as a registered nurse in Regina before having to retire young due to a MS diagnosis at age 36. Our dad Keith became her primary caregiver with tremendous help from her mother Irene. It was obvious the love and dedication they had for her. With dads passing in 2011, her new home became Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Over the next 10 years she gained new friendships with residents, which made the transition much easier for her.

Her love for her family, friends and animals were obvious. The visits from her grandchildren really lit up her world. Over the years she endured a lot and her strength and resilience were way beyond measure, admirable to say the least. Definitely a woman like no other. The memories she has left us all with will live on in our hearts forever. We are so very glad and proud to have called her our mother.

Special thanks to the staff on unit 2-6 at Wascana Rehab (many of whom she spoke highly of) for the care they have given her over the years.

Shirley’s wishes were cremation with no service.
