To Connie, Stacey and your families. Condolences from Mom and me on you loss. Delaine is fondly remembered in our family. She spent many, many hours in the car driving to NDP meetings with my father Alvin. Mom and Dad also spend time with her at conventions both federal and provincial, not to mention election campaigns and victory celebrations or the somber get-togethers after an election loss. I had a special bond with your dear Mom for a couple of reasons. I was an full time organizer/canvasser for Delaine when she ran for MLA in Wilkie constituency in 1975. That was my first paid job after first year university. I spent a lot of time with her throughout the campaign and quickly learned to admire her many great political talents and also for just being such a kind, caring and action-oriented strong woman!! You two were quite small at the time but very cute! Then, when Delaine was assigned to complete bed rest in the University Hospital while pregnant with Beverly, I was still in university. I decided to go over to visit her almost every weekday. One day, I went in and she calmly told me she had just had her baby. A few minutes later, two nurses breezed in with little Beverly - it was the first time Delaine had held her. The nurses threw a hospital gown at me and then asked it I want to hold the baby. I put on the gown but declined their offer. I was too afraid to hold such a tiny newborn.
I will take my computer to mom's tomorrow and we will listen to the livestream service. When I picture Delaine in my mind, she is sitting at a table drinking coffee, always smiling and calmly talking and laughing - about politics, of course. She was terrific and we were honoured that she was our friend.
Delaine was well-pleased with her three wonderful daughters and grandchildren. We are thinking of her and you at this sad time.

Beautiful service and a wonderful tribute to an amazing woman. Mom (Olive), Lynn and I were able to share the service online with her sister Viola at moms house on the farm and had a wonderful time talking about our memories of Delaine. I remember many a political events, Kaiser games and even a few tournaments in Saskatoon.
She followed Grampa (Oliver) Reid with his love of politics and her passion for social justice. He would have been very proud of all she achieved. She was certainly stubborn (a family trait I believe) and had very strong opinions but she also always allow you to have yours as well, even if she didn't agree but you better be able to back them up. She was such a force. I think that is why it seems so hard to accept her being gone so soon, She was one of a kind.
Every time I spoke to her she had stories to tell about her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchild were the light of her life and I don't think we ever spoke that she didn't talk about them all and you could hear the love and pride in her voice when she did.
Of all the people I have know, she will always be someone I admired more than most, she was definitely my favourite cousin and I will miss her dearly.
As mom said a couple of days after we heard of her passing, "Well one thing I know is wherever we go from here Delaine will be there to greet me, having everything organized and saying, come over here Aunt Olive, I have Uncle Bill here waiting for you."
Rest in peace and love Delaine, until we meet again.

My deepest sympathy to all of Delaine‘s family on her passing. I’ve known her about eight years when I became one of her golfing buddies - first indoor golf over the winter and then joining her team at Sherwood Forest for the Tuesday ladies league. I will miss our many chats about current events, sporting activities but especially curling which we both enjoyed watching. Delaine was kind hearted and very independent. I feel honoured to have gotten to know her and will miss her. Rest In Peace Delaine.

We were honoured to attend this service for Delaine via livestream. The family's words were a moving tribute to an extraordinary woman. We are grateful to have been in her circle and to be among the recipients of her generosity, kindness, and humour. She did life in a way we truly admire. May her memory be a blessing to all of you.

Her opinions were strong, her passions were deep, and her commitments to social justice and social democracy were life-long.
I knew Delaine as our Party President but came to know her better during the time she served in Executive Council. I can still hear her voice and her laugh. I can still hear her speak with love of her family. And I can still hear her calling for the best from others and demanding no less from herself.
She made a mark on many of our lives and on the life of our Party and our Province. Rest in peace our friend!

My deepest condolences on the passing of Delaine. She was a remarkable person, a strong woman, and someone deeply committed to her family.
Many years ago, Delaine invited my young teenage daughter Maria and I to join her and Beverley for a weekend at White Bear. They taught us how to play several card games but especially how to play Yahtzee. We still play that game, and every time I am reminded of that fun weekend with the two gamesmasters!
I am sure you all have many memories of her fun and competitive games spirit, as well as of her personal and professional accomplishments. She will be missed.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the friends and family of our dear Aunty Delaine. Her departure has been a complete surprise to those of us who knew and loved her. It is going to take some time to reconcile this change and accept that she has left us for now.
I believe we introduced Delaine to her first round of Golf. No one should be able to out drive the inductees after the first couple of holes, but her natural athletic abilities kicked in and so did her golf career. We are glad that she was able to enjoy this sport during a well deserved retirement.
We are going to miss very much this strong, intelligent, independent, outspoken member of our family.

When I was living in Kerrobert, there were many afternoons spent with Delaine discussing the state of the party in our provincial constituency and more broadly. My favourite Delaine story is one she told me herself.
In 1971, when Dick was the NDP candidate in Wilkie - a seat we had won in 1944 but never since - she called Provincial Office asking for more help, telling them, “we’re either 200 votes ahead or 200 votes behind, and if we’re ahead we want to stay ahead and if we’re behind we want to catch up.” She later learned that the person she was talking to was long time SaskNDP Treasurer Norman Kennedy, who laughed at her. “There’s no way we’re within 200 votes in Wilkie,” he said.
Dick lost to Cliff MacIsaac by 169 votes.
In 1975, Delaine carried the torch, losing to Liberal Linda Clifford by 609 votes. Delaine told me how Jim Garner (who finished third, but later won the seat as a Conservative) spent the morning after the election at her coffee table trying to come to terms with having finished behind two women.
May she Rest In Peace and Rise in Glory.

Aunty Delaine
So many visits, so many stories, I remember one time we were at Aunty Olives and I am not sure why the comment about someone peeing in someone’s cornflakes was funny, guess because I had never heard it I guess.
So many stories of Stacey and Kirbys dogs and how you hated them in the house.
Not sure I remember too much of when we were kids and you were living in Wilkie.
You are gonna be missed for sure.

Delaine's friendship will leave me with a treasure of memorable stories of road trips, fundraisers, rubber chicken dinners and even funerals. We solved many political problems, or didn't over a glass of white wine and a good meal. She was a dedicated and loyal New Democrat. She was fiercely opinionated ... on that point we were an equal match. During the curling season we made many perfect shots from our easy chairs. I will miss her many messages in my 'inbox'. To Stacey and Connie and your families Don and I are so very sorry for your loss. Blessings to all of you at this most sad and difficult time. Judy Samuelson"
