Obituary of Bob Leskun

Robert “Bob” Leskun of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Bob was an only child, born on February 19, 1939 to Edward and Valena Leskun in Regina, SK.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward in 1982 and Valena in 1994.

Bob is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene, his four children; Jim (Manju) of Regina, SK, Tim of Calgary, AB, Tom (Tammy) of Calgary, AB and Shelley (Kevin) of Newmarket, ON, eight grandchildren; Naticia, Neil, Neveah, Maks, Rebecca, Kody, Kaleigh and Brianne, and four great-grandchildren; Oliver, Rylee, Brooks and Jax.

Bob participated in many sports including football, baseball, fastball, basketball and bowling. His love of football allowed him to play 3 years with the Regina Rams, being named all-star linebacker in 1959 and 1960, and to sign a contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1961. Before being married, Bob coached high school girls bowling and after being married, before his children entered organized sports, he coached peewee football.

On December 14, 1963, Bob and Marlene (nee Dixon) married and began their 57 years of family life together. With the birth of 3 sons and a ‘tomboy’ daughter, Bob soon was able to apply his love of sports to coaching his own kids in hockey and baseball. Over the years, Bob and Marlene enjoyed attending sporting events, whether it was their children’s or grandchildren’s hockey, baseball, softball, box lacrosse, or field hockey being played anywhere in Canada or the United States.

Bob spent most of his career working for the Leader Post in Regina. He began his career as a part-time employee in the Mailing room of the Leader Post. In December of 1956, at the age of 17, Bob started his full-time career in the Leader-Post Pressroom. Over his career, Bob worked his way up to the Pressroom Manager. Due to restructuring, Bob left the Leader Post in March of 1996 and worked for the Herald in Lethbridge, AB. In early 1999, Bob was asked to resume his Pressroom Manager duties at the Leader Post until his retirement in August 2001.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3 or a charity of your choice.

At Bob’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
