As a co-worker, Ralph was always someone I enjoyed a visit with as I made my rounds to and from different departments within the Leader-Post during the ten years that I spent there. He was a wealth of knowledge no matter what "worldly" events we debated and he was always a true gentleman when offering a different opinion. Though his presence will be very much missed by his family, may his love and guiding ways provide strength through the days ahead.
With sympathy,
Wally & Nadine Sadowsky

Cindy, Brent & Aleesha,
I emailed you the horrific day Van passed that he was a pillar in our family tree of the Goldsmiths, & I meant that in every way. He was always our family MC. So many wonderful memories of Van. I can still hear his wonderful laugh. And I can picture him in the backyard on Grant St grilling those burgers while we all enjoyed fun times in the pool. There was never a day that I can remember that he'd miss reading the Leader Post, of course, cover to cover I think. That was his legacy taking after his father, having their careers at the Leader Post. We always had so many laughs together. One of the best was when we were sitting around the kitchen table, including of course, Jean with her canker sore. (You know the exchange. Hilarious!) How about the time we "ran away" after Cindy bought that bunny? And Van was going to take it back when we all finally returned. Good times, good times. ha ha And you even ended up keeping that bunny. Van's kind heart will ALWAYS be remembered. On Sept 11th I could picture him meeting up with Cookie Jean when he passed. That is a comfort that helps me. Thank you, Van, for all the years of so many cherished memories that I smile about every time I think of them. You will dearly be missed. Love, Shannon Schmidt

I was so sad when I heard Ralph had passed. I have so many fond memories of he and Jean growing up, I grew up calling him Van and he’ll remain that in my heart. I’ll always remember his signature brush cut and rubbing my hands over it when I saw him. I know he’ll be missed so much by his family and friends. Sending lots of love, Kenda
