It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodney (Rod) in Regina, SK on Monday, October 18, 2021 at the age of 73 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Erwin and Lucille Rath and granddaughter, Harlow. Rod is survived by his wife, Sandra, of 47 years; their three sons, Bradley (Serena) and their children, Emma and Olivia; Michael (Lacey) and their children, Benjamin, Isaac and Desmond; Thomas (Janessa) and their children, Isabella and Georgia; brother, Jerry (Sue) Rath; sisters, Bonnie (Al) Kraus and Maxine (Gary) Meschishnick; nieces and nephew.

Rod was born in Humboldt, SK and raised on a farm a few miles north of Muenster, SK. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in his elementary years, then Muenster High School. Rod graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a law degree in 1971 and was admitted to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1972. He practiced law for 43 years, beginning his legal career in the SGI Legal Department. He then entered private practice with Halvorson, Scheibel & Thompson that in time became Gerrand Rath Johnson practicing primarily in the area of civil litigation. Rod was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) on December 21, 2011 and retired in December of 2015.

Rod served on the board of Catholic Family Services for 4 years with 2 years as chairperson. He also served in ministries at Holy Trinity R.C. Church.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing hockey and golf, gardening as well as getting together with friends. His hearty laugh, quick wit and sense of humour will always be remembered. Rod was a wonderful father who was always on the go taking his boys to their many activities and cheering them on. He was very proud of them.

Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 5050 Sherwood Drive, Regina, SK on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301 – 2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
