My memory of John goes back to 1956 when I became the parish priest of Sacred Heart Church, also known as White Eagle, being, at that time, a predominantly Polish parish. Visiting John, therefore we spoke in Polish. In 1960 the parishioners built a new church with all volunteer labour. Among them John pounded many nails, and the women supplied many lunches and cofee. on one visit later on, I visited John and Mary at the farm. John was in the worksop, I think he was fixing harnesses. I was so pleased when Jennifer phoned and invited me to give the Last Anointing to John at the care home with so many of the family being present.
