Obituary of Wayne Freeman Maguire
Wayne Freeman Maguire, Late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on 13 December 2021 at the age of 86 years after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He is survived by wife Joan; daughter Lesley; son Jeff (Winnie); grandchildren Ivy and Ava; sister Marion; niece Maureen Turner and nephew Shaun Turner.
Wayne graduated from Civil Engineering in 1958 from the University of Saskatchewan. After graduation he moved to Weyburn, met his wife Joan, and started his career with Saskatchewan grid roads. They then moved to Regina, and he served as General manager of BA Construction for many years. Upon the sale of BA Construction, he moved to ASL Construction Regina. After retirement Wayne continued to consult on various projects in the Regina area.
During his career he was President of Kinsmen, President of the Saskatchewan Road Builders Association in 1974-75 and 1989-90, President Western Canadian Road Builders Association 1977-78 and received his Gold Seal Certificate for Project Management in Road Building and Heavy Construction from the Canadian Construction Association. He left his mark throughout the province with his numerous projects.
In his spare time Wayne enjoyed the sports of hunting, fishing, waterskiing, Nascar, hockey, and was a Riders season ticket holder for many years. To say Wayne loved cars is an understatement. He embraced everything about the automobile. He was always willing to share his knowledge or pull a wrench. His passion was restoring vintage cars, his favorite restoration was his 1940 Packard.
Wayne was always very patient. He developed his strong work ethic helping his father at the Cockshutt Dealership in Francis. He had a subtle sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. Wayne enjoyed ice cream, jazz, blues, and a good piece of pumpkin pie.
Wayne always enjoyed lake life, his boat, and his cottage. He was a master of the DIY and always had a project on the go. Another interesting fact you may not know about Wayne was that he had his pilot’s license and flew a Cessna; an accomplishment that he was very proud of. He was a devoted family man, the best husband, father, and friend that you could have. He will always be loved and missed.
