Marilyn Bzdell

Obituary of Marilyn Joan Bzdell

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Bzdell (nee Avery), on Sunday February 13, 2022 in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 67.

Marilyn’s love of life was not lost on anyone who met her. She left a lasting impression on all. Her love for family and friends, her happy nature, her joyful laugh, her tight hugs, and her generous spirit in organizing anything fun will be missed. She loved welcoming people and providing home-cooked meals with tons of baking! The United Church and civic involvement were also important to Marilyn. She believed in community engagement whether participating in town council or volunteering with numerous church and sports boards over the years; fund-raising for the cancer society; building with Habitat for Humanity and so on. She also loved curling, golfing, playing ball, the ‘Riders, doing puzzles, and playing cards and games. Matching her warm and sunny personality, she also enjoyed any moment in the sun, including all summers in Saskatchewan, and winter holidays in the sunny south.

Her tenacity for life was also not lost on anyone who met her. She worked hard and was looking forward to her retirement and having free time. She fought her illness with multiple myeloma the same way she went through life, with unquestioning optimism. Her presence on this Earth will be greatly missed.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Don Bzdell. Cherishing her memory are her daughter Mandie and son-in-law Pierre Lecomte; her son Jason and grandson Dylan; her mother-in-law Helen Bzdell; her family Eleanor and Gus Hodgson, Les and Betty Avery, Grace Kuntz, Cecil Avery and Joyce Travis, Gordon and Donna Avery, Doreen Cunningham, Barry and Vanda Avery, her in-laws Patricia Poole, Karl and Terry Bzdell, David and Cheryl Bzdell, Greg Bzdell, Donna and John Pretzer, Anthony Bzdell and Chris Truscott; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and many friends near and far.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Cyril and Elsie Avery; father-in-law Alex Bzdell, brothers, Grant and Calvin Avery, sisters-in-law Kathy and Norma Avery, brothers-in-law Leland Cunningham and Joe Kuntz.

Thank-you to the many health care providers who endeavoured to improve Marilyn’s quality of life at all stages of her illness. A special thank-you to Dr. Eswedi and care team.

A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held at Sunset United Church, 177 Sunset Drive, Regina, SK, on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
