Beryl Alice Forgay, passed away peacefully in Regina, SK, at the age of 95 years. Raised in the lower mainland of British Columbia, she graduated from UBC with a Home Economics degree, the first class of the program. Armed with these qualifications, she headed to Saskatchewan intending to spend two years working as a nutritionist with the Weyburn Health Region in the early 1950s. Little did she know that those years would extend to a lifetime. With this adventure came a true love of the prairies. A committed volunteer her entire life, she was a staunch advocate for the underdog. This led to her completing a master’s thesis entitled: “Attitudes in Saskatchewan Society Toward People Labeled Mentally Retarded” (1986).  Her interests in the areas of social justice included Home Economics for Living Project, Association for Community Living, Community Kitchen, Crackerjack Janitorial Cooperative, and Making Peace Vigil. This work resulted in numerous awards and recognition.  Beryl was actively involved in her church. She loved meeting people, appreciated the arts, good literature, and a robust debate on current affairs. Beryl was predeceased by her daughters Faith and Margaret Forgay; her husband, William Arthur (Art) Forgay; and her brother Lawrence Gaff. She is survived by her brother Richard Gaff; her daughters Ann Knutson (Carmen Knutson) and Jane Forgay (David DeVidi); grandchildren Bonnie Molson, Tara Molson (Amanda Flahr), and Monica DeVidi; her honorary daughter Sonjia Johansen (Kerry Stack); and many other family members and friends. The family is very grateful for the caring and compassionate staff of Eden Care Regina and the Wascana Rehabilitation Hospital. A private family service will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. To view the livestream of the service please click on the link above which will be made available on the date and time of the service.
