Obituary of John Robert Macfarlane

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear John. John died from a heart attack with his wife Jeannie and nephew Blake by his side.

John was born in Regina, SK on February 13, 1936, and grew up in Weyburn, SK. He was predeceased by his parents, Isobel and Bert Macfarlane, his sister Joan and brother-in-law Dr. Bill Kendrick, and his in-laws, Louie and Alma Berglund. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeannie, of 49 years, sisters-in-law Pat Shackleton, Dorothy Douglas, brother-in-law Jack Berglund (Theresa) plus many nieces and nephews.

John taught high school English for 29 years. He began teaching at Western Canada High School in Calgary, one year as an exchange teacher in Brentwood, California, and 27 years at Sheldon Williams Collegiate in Regina. After retirement, he became a watercolour artist whose paintings hang in many national and international collections.  He maintained many long and satisfying friendships with his former students who shared their lives and interests with him.  John was very proud of his home. He loved music, art, poetry, reading, cats and people. He led a rich and fulfilling life with his dear Jeannie by his side.

A very special thank you to Dr. G. Garbe, Dr. L. Bhagaloo and Dr. N. Juggernath for their many kindnesses.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina, SK, on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 1:30 p.m.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Jim Patterson Children’s Hospital Foundation or The First Presbyterian Church, Regina, SK.
