Gregory Hicks

Obituary of Gregory Allan Hicks

On Friday, September 2, 2022, Greg Hicks of Regina, SK passed away at the age of 52 years. He leaves behind so…much…stuff, including a multitude of tools and heaps of photography equipment and accessories.

Greg was born in Bengough, SK in June 1970 to Keith and Doris Hicks. Not much of a small-town guy, as soon as he graduated, he jumped ship, working his way through the big Saskatchewan cities of Weyburn and Moose Jaw, ultimately setting in Regina.

In the late 1900’s, using his accounting certificate from SIAST Palliser Campus, Greg kicked off his 25+ years career at FBC. He tried out a number of different roles until he found his forever home as Accounting Team Lead (and unintended IT go-to guy). While Greg’s quick wit and straightforward nature was sometimes a bone of contention among co-workers, FBC was like a second home and his coworkers were like family, full of mutual care and respect.

In 2009, Greg received a message from a green-eyed, independent, young woman that would change his life for the better. That message kicked Greg off into some new roles – step-dad, husband, and even grandpa – and launched over 12 years of intense love and unbridled weirdness.

Greg was best known for his passion of photography, spending endless hours studying, planning, shooting, and prepping beautiful landscape photos and portraits, much to his wife’s chagrin. Well, not really, as he had his own personal photo scout, and they never had to worry about poor quality pictures, finding artwork for the house, or hiring a photographer for special events. Greg worked closely with the Regina Photo Club; it became his third home, where he built many strong friendships with some wonderful people.

Greg is survived by his adoring (and sometimes, frustrating) soulmate, Jennifer Martuo; uniquely fascinating step-daughter Raylene (Chase) Martuo-McDonnell and Olivia Martuo-McDonnell; goofy grandson Wyatt Martuo; dad/twin Keith Hicks; ever-hugging sister Penny (Karl) Nergard; nephews Catlin Nergard and Brodie (Carissa) Nergard; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Greg was predeceased by his computer-challenged mom Doris Hicks; grandparents Ernest and Ella Carlson and Dean and Margaret Hicks; and two fur-babies Stomper (Shady) and Zep (Zepplin).

As per Greg’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. While he wanted his ashes “scattered in a ditch somewhere”, his wife vehemently disagreed, so interment will take place for Greg’s immediate family on a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please give generously to the Regina Humane Society, P.O. Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7 in memoriam.

We would like to express our thanks for the phone calls, prayers, and loving support through this difficult time. While we will miss him dearly and his “fricken Hilarious” character, his wife will not miss seeing Roadhouse and Top Gun, what seemed like, an endless loop.
