Obituary of Brian Warren Haacke

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Brian Warren Haacke on October 15, 2022. Brian was pre-deceased by his parents Warren and Ella Haacke, father and mother in-law James and Olive Axtell, grandparents, special aunts and uncles, and a cousin. He is survived by his loving wife Susan to whom he was married for 40 years, and sons Adam and Matthew (Nevada), nephews Sean and Chris Axtell and niece Jennifer (Jordan) Elgert. He is survived by loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and students whom he enjoyed teaching at Peacock Highschool in Moose Jaw, and at Martin Collegiate, Campbell Collegiate and Cochrane Highschool in Regina. Brian taught automotives, metals and welding for most of his career. He also taught math, social studies and wood working. Brian was a football coach, chaperoned high school social events, created high school car clubs and created a time during noon hours or after school where students could gather and talk, or work on vehicles with him. Every student was special to him.

In his early years, Brian lived in Regina, Yorkton, Germany, Moose Jaw and settled in Regina. He attained his Bachelor of Education and Certificate in Adult Vocational Technical Education both from the University of Regina. Brian loved working on vehicles, keeping current with the vehicle industry and cooking.

Brian retired in June 2019 with the desire to travel and to spend time with family and friends. Travel plans were suspended due to COVID. Brian spent most of his time in retirement overseeing renovations to create a comfortable living space for his family. He enjoyed and made friends with contractors; the renovations are fabulous and they are a beautiful reflection of him. He enjoyed time at the family cottage at Good Spirit Lake where he also enjoyed special friendships, and he enjoyed trips to Winnipeg and Edmonton to visit family.

Brian was a kind, caring, determined and dedicated person. His first love was his family for whom he would drop anything to support and be with. He held many rolls in family life: caregiver for his parents, father, (and most recently father-in-law), husband, uncle, great uncle, chef, repair person (vehicles and most anything with preference not to do construction or painting), social convenor, driver, grocery shopper, educator, financer, and he engaged in all of these activities plus more, in pure happiness. He kept us current on world affairs and added his political perspective. 

Besides family, Brian enjoyed and loved his friends and meeting new people. Brian was always eager to learn about one’s culture and religion with the potential of learning more about ethnic foods and gleaning recipes. This he especially enjoyed with students.

Brian was a peacemaker. When there was unrest or misunderstanding, he tried to bring about resolution and peace. He discouraged gossip. He always believed life to be short, and that life was to be celebrated in happiness every day. His hugs, gentle hand on the back, handshakes and beautiful smile warmed and soothed many hearts.

Brian will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. He will be forever loved and never forgotten. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with the Right Reverend Helen Kennedy presiding.
