Johnny hired me for my very first part time job, driving the rough mower after school at the Regina Golf Club. I worked for John for the next several summers, cutting fairways, greens etc and I couldn’t have asked for a better boss. He came across as a grizzly bear sometimes but he was a teddy bear at heart.
Johnny and Beth were lifelong friends with my parents, Babe and Brian, and I always looked forward to having Johnny visit the house and talking golf with him.
Those golf conversations continued well into John’s late 80’s as he would call me out of the blue once or twice a year to discuss the latest big golf story or controversy.
I can still remember John’s booming voice cascading across the golf course, sometimes to give us heck, sometimes calling Duchess, and other times just having a conversation with someone above the engine noise of a gator or mower.
John will definitely live on in the Rodgers’ family memories of him.

Kirk, Karen, Chanda and Cristy. What a beauty he was. Larger than life, LOUDER than Life.
From taking me to a 3 day JR Golf clinic at Muenster College when I was 12 or 13 (He thought I should probably stay there) to serving up some of Beth's legendary pies at the driving range / mini golf never without a free tip on how to improve my golf swing.
Then there were the times he came barrelling thru the bushes at the golf course and sliding sideways in his truck out onto the 3rd fairway to interrupt our after school football games. Yelling? but soon realizing that was just his indoor voice. You didn't want the outdoor voice. Knowing he was just doing his job to take care of the golf course, but also knowing he loved watching us do something active fully understanding we were going to meet again the very next day, same time same place. He usually gave us an hour head start as the game would be wrapping up soon anyway.
He was 1 of the best, He loved his community and loved seeing any kid out there taking up the game of golf. Johnny's game !
Thoughts and Prayers to you all. He's hard not to miss.
Terry

My deepest condolences to the Lawson Family. I have known John most of my life from a very early age. Every time I saw John we would stop and chat. John would always have some kind of a story. I looked forward to our conversations. They do not come any better than John Lawson. He was a great, great person. John will be missed by anybody that knew him. God bless and peace be with you.

Dearest Kirk, Karen and family
I am so sorry for your loss. I had the privilege to get to know Johnny at The Bentley. He was a highlight in my day. I was always greeted with that smile and a twinkle in his eye. I will miss the stories surrounding Beth, how they first met and how they loved to dance, but most of all i will miss his hugs and his laugh. Kirk your dad expressed to me many times on how proud he was of you.
He will be greatly missed by all us all at The Bentley.

To the Lawson Family. Johnny and Beth dancing at the Memorial Hall events were wonderful to watch. He shared dances with others, including Aunt Alice Mills. His smile was contagious. A one-of-a-kind gentleman. May you be surrounded by happy memories. Janis Campbell

Dear Kirk and Karen,
Johnny loved life and sports. With his booming personality, we knew he was around and participating fully in the activities. He was not a sidelines guy.
His love of life doesn't come around often. He will be missed.
My deepest condolences, Kirk and Karen, for your loss.
And to Chanda and Kim and Irland, Christy, Chris, Cael, and Grace for the loss of the grandpa and great-grandpa who loved them dearly.
Yours truly,
Annette Bower
