I am so grateful to my daughter-in-law Lorraine for driving me to Regina to spend those last few days with Alaine. We have always lived in different cities but have kept in close touch by telephone and visits. A phone call about once a week when things were good, and a call every day when they were not.
She was bright and talkative and never lost her sense of humour. At lunch one day her tray came and I offered the green beans that were there. She motioned me to come closer and then pretended to hit me on the chin with her fist! I guess that was a no to the beans!
We reminisced about all kinds of things including our holiday together on Salt Spring Island. We laughed when we remembered how our arms ached after driving around in the only rental vehicle they had, an old Jeep with no power steering!
Saying goodbye to my sister was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I was very upset but she was calm, serene and peaceful I feel that I was blessed to have been given this time with her. As Carol Burnett would say, "I'm so glad we had this time together!"
Always in my heart
Your sister, Lila Barrie
