Therese Alaine Gerrond born February 2, 1946, in Prince Albert, SK passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at the age of 76 years.

Therese had a zest for life and knowledge. She completed her degree in Bachelor of Arts Advanced with a Major in Linguistics from the University of Regina in 1995, a lifelong goal accomplished and a very proud family which is why we choose her convocation picture. Therese was an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor at the University of Regina, taught ESL at the University of Cuidad Obrigon in Mexico for 4 months which aligned with her passion for travel. After retiring from the U of R in 2014, she taught English at the RCMP Depot to French speaking cadets.

Therese was always looking for the next trip or adventure whether in Canada or places as far as Egypt. She was an avid reader and always looked for ways to give back to her community by volunteering. Therese took great pride in her sons, daughter in-laws and especially her nine grandchildren and talked about them to anyone that would listen. She was always up for a challenge and decided when she was 60 that she needed to learn how to play the piano and guitar.

Therese had amazing friends from coast to coast and some date back 60+ years like the Boothill gang. She truly is a medical miracle and was a patient of the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic at the Pasqua hospital since 1999. Therese loved animals and there were always pets in the house. She encouraged her grandkids to volunteer and would pick them up and drive them to a charity of their choice such as the Regina Humane Society. Therese will be greatly missed but never forgotten as we carry her spirit with us every day.

Survived by sons, James Matravolgyi (wife Wanda) and grandchildren Kylee, Liam, and Madison, Greg Matravolgyi (wife Cheryl) and grandchildren Jordanna, Caleb and Lucas, and Chris Matravolgyi (wife Kristin) and grandchildren Mason, Kherington, and Makayla; former husband Les Matravolgyi; sister Lila Barrie (husband Gerry); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great friends. Therese was predeceased by her parents Allen and Louise Gerrond.

Memorial Service will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with a gathering to follow. A private family gathering for interment of ashes will be held later. The family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this difficult time, especially the fantastic staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice where Therese spent her final days. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Therese’s memory may be made to the Regina Humane Society, 79 Armour Road, RM of Sherwood, SK S4K 0A8.
