Your mom and I talked regularly...we called each other "sis". Why? Well, our mothers were both residents of Santa Maria, and your mom was "there" for all the residents...not just for your grandmother!! The day my dad and I arrived to take my mother to the airport for a move to Vernon, there was your mom, holding my mother's hand...the two of them sitting in the entrance/foyer, my mother all dressed and packed up!! Such loving kindness!! At that moment, I told her she would always be my foster sister!!
Our life paths had frequently crossed in our younger years: we were both good friends of Colleen Nell, you boys attended St. Leo while I taught there, we all attended mass at Christ the King, and in later years, your mom talked me into joining her on Sundays to provide organ music while she led the singing for Sunday masses at Santa Maria. She always had a hug and a smile for the residents. She was the kindest, sweetest soul I've ever known. When we talked, her love for her family was always evident...those dear grandchildren brought her great joy. May you find some comfort in your grief, knowing that she made such a difference in people's lives.
