It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Haider on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, after a hard battle with lung cancer.

Evelyn grew up on the family farm north of Markinch and attended Wiley school until grade 8, then graduated from Markinch High in 1961. After moving to Regina, she worked in several places before settling at Bowman Bros as Accounting Clerk and later promoted to secretary for the Credit Manager. In 1965, she heeded the bidding of Horace Greeley and headed west to Vancouver, working for their sister company Taylor, Pearson, and Carson. From 1965 to 1972, she worked for Western Catering Co as Secretary/Receptionist and then in 1972 she began working for the Sandman/Northland Corporate office as an Accountant.

In 1987, at the age of 45, she welcomed the birth of her only child, Ashley. She then returned home to Regina to have the support of her family to raise her daughter out of the workforce. Evelyn went back to work in 1995 at Quest Automotive/Resolvv Recycling, followed by a one-year position at Anavets in 2002, and then returning to the Sandman company until her retirement in 2005.

Evelyn spent her last few years playing cards, on-line bridge, setting jigsaw puzzles, and, most of all, bingo.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Ashley; granddaughter Charlotte; sisters Grace Solomon, Frances Gyurek, Linda (Ken) Rebalkin, Paulette (Ian) Bulmer, and Joanne (Guy Kirshner) Pomazon; sister-in-law Corine (Don) Pindus; Ashley’s father Norvald Kapstad; and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her father Martin Haider; mother Johanna (Yandel) (Haider) Flaman; brothers Harold (Della) Haider and Alphonso Haider; sister Cecile in infancy; brothers-in-law Jim Solomon and Steve Gyurek; nephew Dale Solomon; and stepfather Jacob Flaman.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, January 28, 2023 (TODAY) at 1:00 p.m. The Mass will be livestreamed.
